sorry, the book is not up for loaning. yet. (It was a gift.)
Mainly a comment on the book and some encouragement to others if they are looking for an interesting read about a flying adventure by a contemporary female. Amazon has some reviews, mostly accurate.

What a story. What an amazing adventure.
And maybe I learned a little about what goes on inside some womens' minds esp when it comes to flying? I had no idea. Makes one a little more compassionate, understanding.

The postscript....shocking, and sadly ironic. Unreal. I had to read the ntsb report. And searched for more on the author online. Also ironic that searches turned up more on her husband than her. :(
 
Her husband was a famous photographer. I had been a fan of his work years before I knew anything about her.

Weirdly I know the guy who taught her to fly the 206. She mentions him in the book and the name was very familiar. The time frame and everything added up so I asked him if he remembered her. He did, but he had no idea she had written the book and didn't know what finally happened to her.
 
this book was one of the first to be passed around in the PoA book club. I had it over christmas when I was on vacation with my family. They had to tear it away from me. I think I read it in about two days. As a reference, Leah loaned me a copy of Harry Potter (the first book) when we started dating 3.5 years ago and I am on about chapter 6.
 
I kicked that one off on its travels... I forget who has it, but it's in circulation in the PoA Book Club.

Agreed, as to the ending...
 
Great book. A great read, especially for women, and I definitely do not mean that in a sexist way. I've recommended it to my (non-flying) wife. I really enjoyed the book. I couldn't believe she was flying around South America and doubting herself. I was pretty doggone impressed.

The postscript is a perfect example of why the DE quizzes you long and hard about "holding out" and other things when you go for your Commercial rating. A sad ending that didn't have to be....
 
Can you imagine not being able to get the localizer, partial panel, so descend over the ocean, follow the vor to the field! Good flexibility!
 
Excellent book! I loaned my copy to someone who loaned it to someone else....never got it back...damn.
 
I have possession of the Book Club book. It is ready to be passed on. Anybody want it? Let me know.

I couldn't put it down either - finished it in one day the first time. Just read it again a few weeks ago.
