Florida One

Neat - thanks for posting.

That was cool! They should make one look like an Alligator for Florida but that may tick off the FSU fans!:D

Heck of a paint job. Notice how the design continues on the engines when viewed from the side?

That's an incredible masking job on the painting. And the assembly line is cool, too; imagine hanging those engines while the whole thing is moving.

I wonder if every customer gets a time-lapsed video of their plane under construction and painted, or if SWA had to pay extra for that?

Pretty amazing, that giant thing assembled from the looks of it almost completely by hand.

I think I read today in an AvWeb newsletter that Boeing produces the 737 at almost 1 per day. Wow . . .

Yeah, but I wonder what the gestation period is... in other words, how long is that first one on the line before they start rolling one per day behind it?

The present build time is now just 11 days (5,500 airplane unit hours of work) with a future target of 6 days (4,000 airplane unit hours of work). In Dec 2005 a second production line was opened to increase the production rate to 31 aircraft a month. By 2007 there was a three year waiting list for new 737s, and an order backlog of over 1,600 aircraft. A third production line is under construction dedicated to the MMA order.
i also found that production is being raised from 31.5aircraft/month to 34-38 per month.

the data is from Feb 2010 and is on the author of the book 'The Boeing 737 Technical Guide' website

I got a chance to visit the Boeing Field once. It was pretty impressive. I wish they would have let us walk around on the factory grounds instead of a balcony though.

The paint job is also impressive, there is a lot of coordination that goes into the production.
