FLIGHT CANCELED AFTER TAXIING FOR 8.5 HOURS

A bit odd. Tarmac delay program rules (guidelines?) are much more stringent. At least with our airline.

It went back to the terminal twice and let the passengers off if they wanted to. At 3 hour intervals. Does 3 hours sound about right for that tarmac delay thing?

Weather here in the Denver area was wicked all evening 9/2. I was watching FlightRadar....superb holding patterns. Some were left hand, some were right hand. Many diverted from DEN to COS (Colorado Springs). One even decided to head to Albuquerque instead. One poor (and possible stupid) 172 left COS heading to Centennial (APA) which is about 30 min. I watched it get about 1/3 of the way, held altitude nicely but airspeed was all over the place. Wisely, turned around and went back to COS.

I believe we are 2 1/2, but not sure. It’s more for international if that was in play.

3 hours domestic, 4 hours international is correct.

We have a checklist of what to do which starts at 30 minutes. We also get automated ACARS messages at at 30 minutes, etc. to remind us to do the next steps.

Do the pilots get to log the flight time? :D

Well, they taxied for the intention of flight so I would say so. But I do know they get paid for it.
