First Night landings

Did 4 take offs and landings to full stop to day . Last two were night landings. Tough cross winds but not as bad as I thought they would be.
Actually thought night landing by the lights was easier than in the day.
On the way home passing north up a hill on the interstate just on the east end of runway , the lights were still on . At base of hill 2 reds visible, as I entered the cut going up interstate hill the lights were white /red.
Scary thought as there is a power line just along the interstate also.
 
Glad you enjoyed it. Look up the departure procedures for your airport in the TPP (Terminal Procedures Publication). That is something you will probably only hear about in Instrument training, but a private pilot should consult that at night VFR. It may say something like: for rwy 17, climb to xxx before turning left.
 
When I am flying into an airport big enough to have lights, I prefer flying at night.
I would do more of it, if not for the fact that about 3 out of 4 times I land, it is somewhere that doesn't allow night time operations.

How do you expect us to understand what any of these mean unless you at least give us the name of the airport and runway number?

Sounds like he’s thinking out loud more than anything.
 
A night landing for many of us is basically a “first night landing” as we don’t do it frequently. I tend to have high approaches if I haven’t done night ops for a while which leads to a wild navy “carrier style” landing.

KSBX runway 23 . Interstate 15 is just on the east side of Runway. North-South orientation. As one goes north there is a hill with a cut in it for interstate. Landing lights visible Red-Red passing the east end of runway then White-Red as you pass the north side of Runway 23 as you climb into cut. Interstate less then 1000 feet from end of runway. "A cut" is the area removed from hill for the road way..
