First Fatal plane crash

I wanted to post this last night but Rob got me home late.

On September 17, 1908 was that first fatal plane crash in history according to Flight Safety Foundation.

There were plenty of fatal plane crashes prior to the one. The title of the thread is plain out wrong. This was however the first fatal plane crash of a powered heavier than air airplane.

I thought the same thing.

The issue is the Wright flyer was the first to meet the definition of an airplane, even though others had flown powered before, so the first fatality had to be theirs. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2780/the-wright-stuff
