Fireworks and green laser

Well folks, Jesse got the attention of the local news station ( after a little arm twisting :D) and they just aired a piece about the laser light incident. The news station took the incident very seriously, and mentioned the police department for doing nothing. Nice job Jesse! You looked really relaxed and matter of fact. Jesse did aviation proud!

Did you get a chance to mention they should stop asking about flight plans while you were talking to them? ;)

Late Breaking News....
Film at 11....

Jesse was pulled over by the LPD tonight and cited for

1- having a chip in his windshield
2- marginal tread depth on three out of four tires
3- one too many air fresheners hanging from his rear view mirror
4- a possible dim bulb in the tag light

and numerous other petty charges. That officer arrested him and he is being held in jail on a 1 MILLION dollar bail.:hairraise::yikes:...

Jus kiddin.;)

Heh. Cool. Nice airplane. ;)

Did you see the typo in the text? Apparently you were flying at "2,00" feet! :) :) :)

By the way, I know I'm joking around on this one, but it's a serious problem.

Some doofus was doing it 2 miles east of KAPA tonight, lighting up everything that arrived.

Wish they'd light up the Denver Sheriff's helo... That'd make for something fun to listen to on the scanner.

Bad boys, bad boys... As the COPS credits roll...

Thanks for setting that up Larry. I was trying to avoid the spotlight of the media, it's a rule of mine to never get on the news in relation to aviation, but you convinced me:

You are an excellent ambassador for aviation and GQ magazine. :D Those two traits should be exploited! :D. If the spotlight is on me or you personally, I agree with you. If on the other hand you are trying to get a message out then the media is one of the best tools around. ;)

The city of Lincoln and eastern Nebraska have been made aware of the danger, the law, and the penalty for shining a laser into the cockpit of an airplane. Thanks for going on the air!

I believe that is the closest to "clean-shaven" I have ever seen Jesse "Five O'clock Shadow" Angell... and no "World's Best Pilot" t-shirt? :D

Nice work, Jess!

Nice work, Jess!

He demanded his own make up artist, air conditioned trailer, and spring water brought in from Iceland by limo.:rofl:

Hey ran the article this am also. Way to go Jesse! Well done. :yeahthat:

On the morning news?

All fun and games until the plane you just hit now has a laser tracking at you with multiple rounds following behind.

There are legitimate uses for such a device.

I personally have used them for holography and determining the point spread function for a lens.

There are still amateur and professional scientists that use powerful lasers. Amateur astronomers do use these lasers for pointing to stuff in the sky and they are generally careful to avoid aircraft. Running a laser on an integral battery makes it a lot easier to use without another set of wires.

Thank you, I knew there were scientific uses but did not know why Joe Schmuk on the street would have any use for lasers this powerful. It seems to be far beyond the level of novelty.

The question reminds me of similar questions with respect to owning some types of firearms-why does one need an assault rifle for hunting?

We already have laws regarding the inappropriate use of firearms and lasers and they should be enforced without infringing on the ownership of these devices for legitimate uses.

I was not trying to draw any parallels. I was merely curious about the uses for the average consumer. I could not think of any situation in which I have said to myself, "Gee, this would be so much easier if I had a laser that could touch the moon." (sarcasm). But because I've never had that problem, doesn't mean that no one else has either. That's why I asked.
