Wichita, KS, June 9, 2011, shortly after midnight.

I'm sitting on the back deck, sipping a cool one and enjoying the evening when all of a sudden the winds kicked up to 60 mph and the temperature went from 82dF to 102dF (in less than 20 minutes). I quickly **** my pants, got down on my knees and waited for the brimstone. It didn't come but with all the rapture talk of late...it was freaky!

True story about the temps. I made up the part about being there. What a trip it would be to experience a 20dF temp rise in 20 minutes in the middle of the night. Woaaaaa....

"KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A blast of unusual heat hit Wichita, Kan., shortly after midnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said temperatures jumped between 15 and 20 degrees after midnight, going from 85 degrees at 12:22 a.m. to 102 degrees at 12:42 a.m. at Wichita's Mid-Continent airport. Similar readings were reported at Jabara airport and McConnell Air Force Base just after 1 a.m.

The National Weather Service said a heat burst was to blame.

"The sudden rise in the thermometer was accompanied by a downburst of winds that gusted to near 60 mph in some locations," according to the weather service's website.Forecasters said the burst of hot air in the middle of the night was likely the result of showers and storms that broke up a half-hour to an hour before the heat burst was felt. Cool! (er...hot)
Scott et al need to explain this one (5 letter words or less, please)!

102F at 1am :hairraise: What was the temp around there during the day ?

It's currently 43 degrees here in Upper Michigan (yes Fahrenheit). It got up to 54 today. I hope you all aren't too hot. We will pay for this beautiful summer weather next winter.

It was in the 60s today here and I fired up the lawn tractor for the first time. Tonight it's in the 50s.

My sister was whining about the 'heat', she lives near the 45th parallel. I sent her this:
scroll down the pdf for the photo of the digital thermometer shooting the side of my truck.
