Finally Got One!

I settled on Shimano SPD pedals and mountain bike shoes with recessed cleats.

Not the "raciest" combo, but I appreciate the ability to more comfortably walk around in them if I have to.

I use that combo on my city commuting bike. Once you get used to clips, it's really hard to ride without.

ILight er up. I ride with a blinking headlight and flashing taillights.

Good call. I use the Cygolights, I use the Metro 550 headlight and the Hotshot tail light. The "day lightning" mode on the 550 is impressively bright. On a full sunny day I can see the flash reflecting off of the road signs.

That was the advantage to old style pedal clips, you didn't need some special shoe to use it.

Technically you didn't, but in reality if you wanted to develop any power you did. A tennis shoe/sneaker/sport shoe is too soft and the rear of the pedal will dig into the sole at the back of the pedal, just to the rear of the ball of your foot. It can be very painful.

In the old days of clips and leather straps, I had bike specific shoes with very hard rigid soles and they had a movable slot dingus on the bottom that sat and locked in over the rear of the pedal.

Congrats on the new bike. My own preference is for a recumbent tricycle but *anything* that gets you out riding is a good deal. I hope you enjoy it fully.

Thanks! Might be in a month! Cant wait to meet you and see the Bo!

Call or PM when you know you're coming so I can accommodate schedule!
