FF 7.4 is out

I fill out the necessary info, plane, passengers, fuel, the home airport where I'm going, the alt airport, the time I'm leaving, how long enroute, airspeed, the whole forum. I hit brief (which usually works) to get the brief.

When you do this, you do have a connection to the internet, yes?

To see the new Briefing system, make sure you're not asking to get the info from DUATS.

Then check out the FF Pilots guide starting at page 141 to see what if any other steps are being missed (including settings so you're getting the LockMart data stream).

If continued problems, reach out to the support team. The times I've been in contact with them, I've been very satisfied with level of knowledge and keen desire to help you.

Turns out that it is a problem with being in the DC SFRA messes with the briefing, got some tips to fix it.

FWIW, when I initially upgraded to 7.4, I somehow got build 1829 (as seen in More->About), which apparently wasn't the "real" 7.4, as some features were missing.

Deleting and reinstalling the app was sufficient for it to pull down build 1881.

Strange, I also have build 1829 and can't use the new briefing features. I don't really wish to do a complete reinstall though.

That's interesting.

I had a ForeFlight update notification this morning when I flipped open my iPad. I checked, it was still v7.4. I thought :dunno:.

Might be that I was updated from 1829 to 1881...

Maybe...

1881 is indeed what is now installed.

The way to get the new briefing while in the DC SFRA would be to select VFR instead of VFR SFRA when selecting the flight rules. The other way is to turn off the new briefing all together. I like the first way.

As an aside, I don't trust ScottD any farther than I can throw him. I developed that opinion at least ten years ago. It hasn't changed. It's been my experience that ScottD looks out for one person...ScottD. I mourned the day ForeFlight brought him on board.

OK, I give. what is the deal (history) with ScottD?

I deleted the app and reinstalled but I still have build 1829. The only change is that I'm now missing the documents I had imported. grrrrrrr

7.4.1 is out.

New "Hidden Feature".....

Remember how your iThingy has "Spotlight Search? (from home screen, swipe down)

Type in any airport identifier. See the summary of info. Tap on it to be taken to the airport page within ForeFlight.

I just checked it out and it left me wondering if it is indeed a legal briefing. There seems to be some gaping holes. One in particular is the winds aloft forecast. It's simply not there...at least I couldn't find it, but take that for what it's worth since I'm a "techno tard" and not a "techno geek" (in the words of Weird Jim).

And, yes, I know winds aloft are available in the "altitude advisor" but that's not the briefing...

Winds aloft is now there. Just briefed a flight and it was included. I also updated to 7.4.1. So maybe it was included with that update.

Are you looking at the new style or legacy version? The winds aloft were in the legacy version all along. But the proportional font makes the info difficult to read (no pseudo-table format like a mono spaced font produced).

New style. Winds aloft weren't here before (thus the discussion of the poor presentation of the legacy version). The legacy version is still unreadable but I don't need to look at it now! :D
