McMaster-Carr has an 18 X 1.5mm thread repairing die, albeit a bit pricey at $46:

Although there are some that insist (without documentation) that spark plug threads are somehow different from "regular" threads; if you subscribe to this the above may not work.

You are correct, brit ... those that think that Harbor Freight or any old auto parts store has a FEMALE spark plug chaser has never had to find one. You are also correct on the thread size.
