I find it hard to believe that I can be so polar by saying things are often complex. I do not mind being "challenged" by reasoned argument; indeed I enjoy it.

There's a good reason I requested to be banned from the Spin Zone. I was once upset with Jay for his thoughts on it scattering outside of the SZ but toward the end, I entirely understood. It took only a few people to make that area undesirable and unworthy of my attention.

I'm glad to be gone.

My list doubled its length today. :( Ironically, I only blocked people from "my side" of the PoA political spectrum. (I say "my side" because I'm pretty much in the middle of the general population's spectrum, but tend to be looked at as somewhat "liberal" compared to folks on this board.)

And I do apologize if my economic observations drifted into the political realm. I rarely know what forum I'm in, as I usually just hit the "new posts" link. However, I will endeavor to be more careful in the future.

I find, as I age and mellow, that the thrill of showing someone just how right I am, and just how wrong they are, just isn't there any more. Instead, I have discovered, I find that when I try to do that, all I end up doing is splattering myself with embarrassment.

Maybe it's because my day job is all about fighting with others for fun and profit, but I think what we have in common here is vastly more important than what's different, and I hate to see people spoil that.

I "would not take" (a Texas expression) for the friendships I have made here, and through my pilot activities (in general) and PoA (in particular), I have a new (to me) network of true and valued friends, and these are the kind of people upon whom I KNOW I can rely in a time of need... and you know what? Not a one of 'em have I chosen based upon commonality of political interest.

I am not going to take a big steaming crap on my friends, here or anywhere else, and I bet that, upon reflection, none of you all want to do so either.
 
Some folks seem to be trying to prove things; others seem to be making long- lasting friendships.

Hmmm. I wonder if maybe it would be a good idea to have Spin Zone stuff have a different background color, if such a thing is possible? (I bet it is... Pseudocode "if(forum=="Spin Zone"){bgcolor="3333FF"}else{bgcolor="FFFF33"}")

I never had a problem figuring out where I was because, due to Spin Zone being my lowest priority for reading things here, I blocked it from my "new posts" and after I was done reading everything else, I'd click directly on Spin Zone. Might be an idea for others to try as well.

European countries are, for the most part, exporters with lower debt-GNP ratios. There's an argument to be made that the USD's status as a super-currency now also applies to the Euro, but the Euro probably isn't quite as inflation-proof as the USD.

I don't think it's likely. The USD is a one-of-a-kind currency. It's generally seen as almost completely inflation resistant, and I don't think things have gotten bad enough that this status is being seriously questioned.

Now that the POA kids are in bed the adults can have a rational discussion about the economy and world banking. Sure is nice to have the piece and quiet back huh?

I have read that China is talking about replacing the USD as the world standard currency going into the G20 summit. It seems China would be the bug looser if inflation takes off as they hold much of our debt and we are looking for them to finance our "stimlulous".

I hear what China is saying, and at first, Tim Geitner seemed to be receptive. I found that shocking as he is supposed to be the number one supporter of the Dollar as our Treasury Secretary (caused quite a stir in monetary markets for a day or two).

There is always talk of things like this when things get testy. Let's not forget Milton Friedman's prediction that the Euro wouldn't survive the first strong economic downturn. If one reviews safe currencies of the past, the leading military power's currency was normally the most accepted. Of course, military power was only possible with economic power.

I believe Chinas' current GDP is only about 10% of what the U.S.s is (I haven't checked that fact). The IMF already has an SDR.

I don't think there will be a lot to this when economic circumstances improve, but there will be a lot of talk if the Dollar weakens. While this sounds attractive to many folks, the implementation gets difficult. Who sets the currency rations in the SDR; how are those adjusted. The IMF wanted gold to be part of the formula. Others abhor gold.

Sounds great, difficult to actually effectuate, and, the larger countries can buy and sell currencies to form their own basket of them is they so desire.
