Eye exam before medical?

Last time I went in for a medical, my vision wasn't corrected to 20/20 according to the AME. My eye doctor swears up and down that the prescription I have gives me 20/20 vision. I went to another eye doctor who confirmed the first eye doctor's opinion that my corrected vision is 20/20. I really can't afford to fail my medical. Can I get an eye doctor's report to take with me instead of doing the eye exam in the AME's office?

Yes you can, but the AME accepts this at his discretion, if he knows the opthalmologist. Be SURE the eye doc specifies vision at 20 feet, 32" and 16" in EACH EYE INDIVDUALLY.

Does FAA exam measure at those distances? I don't recall a 20 foot distance. It was simulated in a box. And the 32" wasn't done. Maybe this is all at the "discretion" of the AME too?

If you did it in a Titmus Vision tester, it is done in the box with optics. No, it is not optional. AMEs who do not do the items in the exam have a funny way of getting dropped as AMEs.....
