Had my 135 Aerostar checkride today. Didn't do too badly. Had a few stupid mistakes, but I was reasonably ahead of the airplane most of the time. FAA check airman is a great, laid back kind of person. I had him for my last ride, and he really makes you feel at ease, somehow. Certainly better than my instructors did. Now to go out and do some charters with it! Hopefully there will be enough charters throughout the winter to stay proficient with it. It was a long and tiring day, though. I think I did more approaches in the last week than I have done in the last two years. I'm really beat.:thumbsup:

My plans are to be there, although, hopefully, with the new and improved version of Twinkie. I'm bringing beer for all of you people that helped me last year, because I sure owe you all one.
 
Curious, what model Aerostar is it, and what speeds are you seeing out of it? The 310N Colemill I'm flying does 190 ktas @ 5000-8000 on about 34 gph combined. The Aerostar 600A we have at Williamsport does about 5 kts faster on the same fuel burn.

That'd be about right. It probably doesn't haul as much as the 310 either, but I could be wrong. Compared to Twinkie and the Aztec, it is a bit faster and a little more challenging to stay ahead of, especially when you are doing multiple approaches one after another. Fortunately, you don't normally do that in real world flying. Since I had kept barely legal in the IFR flying for the last several years, it was difficult to ramp up AND step up to a new faster aircraft AND requalify for 135 ops all at once in a short span of time.

The 310 is probably more forgiving and holds more, although the Aerostar's cabin has certain advantages for trying to haul dogs.

Doing multiple approaches at multiple places is easy to get out of practice in doing (did it for the first time for real this past weekend), and stepping up to a new and faster airplane in the process adds an extra challenge. It took me a couple hours in the 310 to get comfortable with it. Insurance wanted 10 hours before I soloed it. By then I was safe flying it. Now having 50 hours in it I'm feeling really comfortable with the thing.
 
Yep, except they are now based at Lancaster. Much easier runway to deal with, and we can actually hangar them.


Yeah, I'll bet. Always thought Smoketown was a little tight for them.
