What do you guys listen to when you want to get/stay pumped while exercising? I usually ride my bike for about an hour and need to find some new music to keep me energized. Suggestions? What works for you?

I think the answer is very simple, it has to be something that you like that is fast paced, and gets you excited.

Gyms typically play classic and modern rock.

Moody Blues: Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band

KT Tunstall: Suddenly I See
Liz Phair: Why Can't I?
ELO: Calling America
Traveling Willburys: End of the Line
A-Ha: Take on Me
Blondie: Heart of Glass

To name a few

iAlso like to watch South Park on my iPod iTouch

there was this great zztop tape that I used for running... sigh. Don't know what happened to that thing. :(

If by "riding my bike" you are talking about an indoor exercise bike, and listening to music while you're doing that, go for it - I find a nice combination of fast, med. and slow for when I'm riding fast, slow and half-fast. :)

If you're on the road, I hope you aren't listening to music! At least not with earbuds! Too much can surprise ya, I've found... :(

No worries Tom, I'm in my bedroom. :) We live on a dirt road and it's hard to ride a bike on the dirt road. There's a narrow highway down the road apiece and it's not really a good place for a bike.

Here's my current "workout" playlist:

Nickelback - Next Contestant
ZZ Top - Pincushion
Nickelback - Side Of A Bullet
Tantric - After We Go
Nickelback - Photograph
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Texas Flood
Tantric - The Chain
Los Lonely Boys - Onda
Little Feat - Texas Twister
Tantric - All To Myself
Linkin Park - One Step Closer
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - The Sky Is Crying [Live]
Blues Traveler - Stand
Living Colour - Cult Of Personality
Ben Folds - Army
Don Henley - I Will Not Go Quietly
Johnny Winter - Ain't That Just Like A Woman

It changes from time to time.

You've given me some good ideas.

Here's mine for now:

What I've Done -Linkin Park
Lift Me Up - Moby
Flirtin' With Disaster - Molly Hatchet
Send Your Love - Sting
All the Things She Said - t.A.T.u.
Chains (S&M Mix) - Tina Arena
Vertigo - U2
Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
Hung Up (SDP Extended Vocal) - Madonna
This Is How a Heart Breaks - Rob Thomas
Somebody Told Me - The Killers
Pretty Vegas - INXS
Holiday - Green Day

In memory of John Stewart, of the Kingston trio, who passed away today, I would have "Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dooley"

and to inspire my stationary bike ride, I would have "Bicycle" by Queen

but then that would make me remember another song by Queen ... "Fat Bottom ..." uh er, never mind ...

Whenever I have the urge to exercise, I lay down on the couch with a beer until the urge passes ...

:D

all completely in jest, of course!

Here's an exercise line up for you - http://www.vainman.net/rock70.htm

I just get on a bike and pretend my ex is behind with with a knife.... no music needed.

I've used this for a little while now... probably all too long at this point:

Rage Against the Machine - Dead Souls
Rage Against the Machine - Darkness
Rage Against the Machine - Freedom
Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the Name
Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
Rollins Band - Ghostrider
Metallica - I Disappear
Metallica - One
Marylin Manson - Long Hard Road Out of Hell
Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot
Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod
50 Cent - Candy Shop
50 Cent - In Da Club
Kayne West - Jesus Walks
Eminem - Lose Yourself
Hive - Ultrasonic Sound
Deftones - Nosebleed
Roots Manuva - Witness (1 Hope)
Pantera - The Badge
Pantera - Mouth for War
Limp Bizkit - Mission: Impossible 2 Theme
Flogging Molly - Salty Dog
Dropkick Murphys - Last Letter Home
Dropkick Murphys - From Boston
Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up to Boston
Sam Black Church - We've Got the Youth
The Standells - Dirty Water
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Extended Return)
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child [two entirely different songs!]
Matisyahu - Chop 'em Down (Live @ Stubbs)
Matisyahu - Aish Tamid (Live @ Stubbs)
Babaloo - Pepe

I usually go through the list 4 - 5 times on a 80 mile bike ride, which is about perfect. The best, absolute best, rides cue up "Long Hard Road Out of Hell" or any of the Rage Against the Machine on the long, painful climbs, and Roots Manuva on the descent. Let met tell you, 55mph on a road bicycle with Roots in your ear is quite an experience! :D

Cheers,

-Andrew

A friend of mine is a spinning instructor, I'll ask her. I used to spin but then moved far away from my gym - never did get "attached" to another gym after that. It's great exercise though! Do you have a recumbent bike or a regular one? (I assume you are talking about indoors, since it is winter time...).

dave - i like your taste in music!

i walk to class every day in freezing cold iowa. thats enough exercise for me

Recumbent NorkicTrack. It's got fancy programs on it that I don't use. I sure like that little fan though. :D

Just found another good one in my collection that's going into the energy playlist:

Aberdeen - Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Thanks Tony. There were a lot of great suggestions. The music I play has a lot to do with the mood I'm in. This was the more driving, upbeat stuff, but 'time to say goodbye' is something I love.

Scott mentioned Evanescence: Bring Me to Life. While I love that song, I have to be careful listing to it; feel like she's reaching so deep into me I worry 'bout missing parts afterwards!!

I can hear Daddy Tony telling the kids 'bout how difficult times were back when he was in school now <g>

Best,

Dave

Yeah..Yeah we know. Up Hill and in 6 feet of snow ;)

This place I am at in Finland is a little ski resort area. The hotel I am in is on the opposite side of town from the meeting hotel. Each day I have to go and walk to and from the meeting. The village is on a hill with me on the low side and the meeting hotel on the other low side. So I DO get walk in the snow, uphill both ways!

I dare ya to do it barefoot! :D

Try Rammstein... especially great if you're running. I might want to add if I'm looking into a mirror when I'm doing my thing it makes it much more intense.

Just added these recently:

Blurry - Puddle of Mudd
Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat
Life Is Beautiful - Sixx:A.M.

Any other suggestions?

I'm a huge fan of Damien Marley's "Welcome to Jamrock", and Bjork's "Army of Me" is still a great song to hear when grinding out long rides.

Beastie Boys - "Intergalactic" is always a great song to have queued up, too.

On anything involving speed, KMFDM and Anabolic Frolic - Happy 2B Hardcore are dangerous. We've got a long descent out here (~11 miles) that I can whip past 50mph with no issue. I think KMFDM and a 60T big ring and I could blow 70 easy.

White Zombie - "I'm Your Boogie Man" is a great song for stair repeats (35# backpack and a long flight of stairs, two stairs at a time, 5 flights with 5 repeats)

Sevendust and Tool are standard weight lifting tracks...

Cheers,

-Andrew
