Thanks to my instructors, a bunch of help from this site and the people on it, and a ton of hard work, I'm proud to report that the DPE punched a hole in my license and gave me a piece of paper with an Instrument Rating to fly with. I'll write it up later but wanted to share the good news.

Maybe I should just have Cajun_Flyer interview me and have her write it up? I don't have pictures but I'm sure she'd do it justice. Now the real training begins. Off to celebrate and plan my first trip!!!!

Only if you have a picture of yourself flying with the blast shield down.

Way to go!

That's awesome.
Why do they punch a hole in the old one?

It is no longer a valid certificate as it is replaced by the temporary paper one. By punching a hole in the hologram it is in effect just a plastic card and a new license with your updated rating is mailed in 4-6 weeks. Hopefully.

Welcome to the world of being an official, real, pilot.

Congrats!

Congratulations and welcome to the ancient and honorable order of Certified Temporary Airmen!! :)

You mean to tell me Mulligan didn't mulligan? I do believe a new screen name is in order......and your signature needs updating.

Congratulations!

I got mine last week. The examiner did not ask for my certificate to punch a hole in. I'm fine with that, as I want to save it unscathed:)

I consider the hole an important part of the magic of the new rating. I got mine punched last December (Glider rating), and can see myself soaring whenever I look at that hole. :)

I too would like to congratulate you on your exclusive membership in this highly honorable order.
Do not worry, it is temporary, just like the name suggests. :)

I don't think I've ever had a DPE punch a hole in an old cert.
