Engine out Emergency [Video]

I'd be p!ssed if I was golfing and I hit a perfect drive only for it to smack into a crashing plane.

That's why I don't golf.
 
In CTLSi's defense, I believe most of his time is behind a ROTAX.

Due to the geared engine, a ROTAX will usually simply stop when it loses power in the air.

So he may not be familiar with the concept of "windmilling", which most direct drive engines will do in the same situation. I think that's what he meant when he referred to "idling".

Anyway, job well done by that pilot. One can almost always find little things to criticize, but he handled this one remarkably skillfully and (apparently) calmly for his level of exp
 
I feel he should get a default pass on this portion of his check ride. This would be on of those moments that you say to yourself "Alright, I'm ok. Looks like everyone else is ok. Nothing broke but a fence. This is going to be a hit on YouTube!"
