Went in to have my 3rd Class medical today. Sat down with the form and started filling in the blanks, name, address, recent flight history, etc.

Got to "Date of last flight physical". Filled in 07-07-04.

Then it dawned on me.

Ooops.

Had to go up to the counter and tell the receptionist that I was cancelling my appointment. Tucked my tail and went slinking out of there.

Hopefully they can't revoke my medical due to thinking that 5 minus 4 equals 2.

Should we mess with him and say that 5 minus 4 DOES equal 2? :-)

That's not an embarrassing medical. That's an embarrassing almost, unneeded medical.

An embarrassing medical would be if a female doc had done a prostate exam with the finger up the ...."

Heck, I'd've gone ahead and gotten it, but that's because everywhere I've lived, I've had to drive 45-90 minutes to get the medical. It wouldn't be worth it to drive back with nothing in hand.

And hence failing the "cognitive reasoning" portion of the test :)

Eaten any hamburgers lately?

If there's ever a time to be very clear on pronoun references, now would be a good time. :)

Just remember women docs have smaller, more slender fingers than their male counterparts.

Rich,

Well, technically you are correct. However, I knew that the superior intellect of my readers would quickly figure out that, as a member of the female persuasion, I could not POSSIBLY have been referring to the prostate exam. :goofy:

Really long year?

You should have stayed and got it overwith. You already had the time on your schedule (and the docs) and the money allocated for it. You wouldn't have had to go back next year but now you do.

I thought about it for a moment, but I had several other things that I really needed to be doing at that time. Getting in to see the doc isn't that difficult. I called for the appointment last Thursday. Another advantage of small town Iowa.

And about the ONLY advantage. Let's be real here Larry. :)

No, not really. You children grow up having learned rules of behavior that are completely absent in NYC, CHI, and LA. You learn this new set in college. Kinda like being bilingual.

Just the opposite IMO.

I've been in small towns, on farms and in big cities.

Small town advantages are >>>>>>>>> better than big cities.
It's a cultural/ethical/behavioral/lifestyle thing.

I'm going back to the farm very very soon.

Tad bit of thread creep, but that's ok.

I find that most people do the same things in their normal daily lives no matter where they live. I just have several hundred thousand or millions less people to hassle with to do those things. And less distance to cover.

Larry knows I'm ony kidding him because he remembers the story from when I had to do a business trip to Waterloo, IA. My scheduele would not permit an overnight, so I was awake for over 24 hours getting there and back. Commercial airline service s*cks for places like this. And it was snowing there in April.

I am a HUGE fan of small town, rural America. People are friendly, less hassles, usually more reasonable approach to life, slower pace, more conservative, and less expensive cost of living. The only reason I live in major population centers is for my job which requires access to large corporations which are, unfortunately in or near big cities. My dream is to one day use GA to access these areas without living there.

Larry,

Well, this is a bit of a stretch in that you are lucky to have an AME in your small town. I would venture to guess most small towns don't have them. For example, my small town in Idaho, which has all the advantages listed here of small towns, is 90 minutes from the nearest AME, so far as I can determine. And my former small town in Arizona was also 90 minutes from my AME (although that's a little deceptive--I already had that AME when I moved there, and probably could have found one "only" 50 minutes away, but like mine so much I stuck with him despite the drive).

So consider yourself extraordinarily lucky.

Judy

Waterloo is a 90,000 pop community with 3 AME's. I was working in Waverly that day, which is 15 miles away and has a population of about 10,000 and has one AME. All are easy to get in to see. It is very nice.

One of my friends is a family practitioner and a pilot. He would like to be an AME but has been turned down by the FAA because we have too many in the area.
