This is just my opinion.

But I think in light of today, where we had several threads on voting, that when results start to roll in, discussions should take place in the SZ and not in hangar talk.

Just my $.02

I think this is probably the one day ever 4 years that these posts should be allowed.

I bet the MC discussed this too (not that I have personal knowledge about it ;) )

A lot of times the elections are declared before we vote out here in the West. We wish they would wait for us or I guess we might as well go to the Bar instead of to the polls. Just my $.02. Bob

I thought all you Oregoners already voted via your mail in system?

You are just looking for an excuse to go to the bar? :cheerswine::yes::thumbsup:

You mean VOTE Barr, right!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I propose we recognize only one "T" for any sports team. Tennessee ain't it! :D

The way I see it, any person that can make it through the media gauntlet and actually get themselves placed on a ballot, could not possibly be qualified to fill the post they are seeking.

Leaders are wiling to take chances, to be unpopular, to get the job done. They have the ability to make a decision without having to hire a consulting firm to conduct a study. Based on that, no leader could possibly have a squeaky clean background and make it to any election ballot.

Therefore, in my opinion, the election results are of little consequence. We will be governed by committee. ( the same folks who tried to design a horse and came up with a camel.)

If you are interested in historical examples, Michael Beschloss' Presidential Courage is a good read. It is about several presidents who had to make tough calls that they had good reason to believe might end their political careers. Starts with Washington, ends with Reagan. Non-political (perhaps non-partisan is a better description) but shows how hard these decisions can be for an elected president.

I will say that I had to agree with one thing Obama had to say last night - there should be a playoff system in college football. Probably the only thing we agree on, but there's hope for him yet. :D

Someone post a list of promises. I will keep it in my desk drawer, and pull out in 4 years to see how well things came out.

Exceptionally well-run campaign this year by Sen. Obama. History made, and (perhaps) some old wounds, salved.

My policy is (and always has been), upon election, the President becomes my President, and I pray that he has wisdom and judgment sufficient to the task, and divine guidance as needed.

Well put. IMHO, interest in holding political office should be disqualifying. Two of our last three presidents have claimed to aspire to the office since they were little boys -- a thought that is truly scary.

We should select our representatives like jury duty. Only then will we break this system that presents us with a choice between the lesser of two evils every four years.

Why? How could Congressman Cletus POSSIBLY do worse than the scoundrels we just overwhelmingly sent back to Washington?

It's amazing -- Congress has the lowest approval rating EVER RECORDED, and yet we sent every, single one of our incumbents (here in Iowa) back for another round. Astounding.

As you must surely be aware, Congress' poor approval ratings are based upon the abysmal job the other guys' congresscritters are doing- not ours!

Well we do have President 'Cletus; to point at now as an example of what happens when you put an idiot in charge of the country.

No offense but that says more about Iowans than it does about the people who were elected. The same would be true for any state in the same boat.

I have written in the SZ and elsewhere that we do not need term limits as we already have them. Every two years we are allowed by law to overthrow the House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate. All it takes is for us to vote for the other guy. If we constantly do that then no one makes being a member of Congress a career!!

These comments will probably get this thread moved to SZ, but it is probably time it goes there anyways as it drifted far form my original intent anyways.

Would you have said the same had Grassley been up for re-election?

I'm no big fan of Harkin, but it seems that the Harkin-Grassley combo has sort of a yin-yang effectiveness...

Now Steve King, I really can't say anything on that without ending up in SZ...

Back about 30 years ago I attempted To draw a political cartoon. Notice I said attempted. The heading that didn't copy because the original was too big for my scanner, said this is the modern version of the original four horse team. Don't laugh at least I was trying to do something. skybobb:yesnod:

Bob, I rather like that. You may have done it thirty years back, but it remains relevant today... perhaps more so than ever.

The results of the election simply re-enforce the "why do I bother, my voice means exactly squat" feeling I have with. My vote has not mattered once. Not a single time. The only reason I vote is so I can b***h for the next 4 years.

Thanks, I was expecting to get something other that a good comment. I felt this way then and I still do. Bob
