I ran into him a few years ago at a driving range near my house. I told him he swang a golf club like a baseball bat. He laughed and asked if I thought so. We talked for 20 minutes. He asked how my family was doing, how my job was, what I was doing. Being a Cubs fan my whole life, it was an incredible experience.

I would have loved to have asked him questions but he was more concerned about how I was doing. I felt like we knew each other forever, yet we had never met.

They don't make them like him anymore. The world lost a great man.

Rest in Peace, Ernie.
As a Cardinal fan I think I'm forbidden from caring for the Cubs but three are dear to me. Harry Caray, Lou Brock and Ernie Banks. Mr. Cub indeed.

Mr cubs,a true gentleman, may he rest in peace.

I wonder if he ever sold an autograph? I bet he didn't. Ernie Banks is what I grew up thinking every professional athlete should be. It's unfortunate there are so few like him nowadays. RIP Ernie. You and my Dad have a lot of catching up to do.

Had Augie not run Harry out of St. Louis, you wouldn't have to be ashamed of that one.

Can't say that whether or not he ever sold one, but I can say he gave out free ones. I got one as a kid.

His love of the game was apparent, much like Willie Mays.

"Santo, Kessinger, Beckert, Banks - the infield third to first. The Battery - Jenkins and Hundley."

Growing up in Chicago, I remember that lineup like it was yesterday. My dad was a vender at Wrigley Field before WWII, so I had no choice but being a Cubs fan.

Let's play two, Ernie. Rest in Peace.

Some of the best that ever stepped on the field.

Mets is still a four letter word in my house.

The ghosts of 1969 are still wondering around in your head, huh?

Oh yeah. I'm a Cubs fan. Not too many to hold on to.

To the best of my recollection we went right from September to November in 2003. I have absolutely no memory of an October that year. Was it really that long ago. Yikes.

Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Gary Gentry, Al Cardwell, Tug McGraw, Nolan Ryan, all kind of ganged up on the Cubs batters and shut them down, if you wondered....:yikes:

I think one of those guys had a famous offspring. Of course here is the real reason the Cubs lost that year

Shoot. I remember that...

Why didn't any of the cub fans kill that cat?

Hmmm....goats, cats, Bartman, all sorts of excuses. I just wish my Cubs would win the WS so I don't have to hear about any of the above any more....
