Ear / Hearing issue

reminds me of the woman who farts all the time but they don't make a sound and they don't smell. Doc gives her something and a week later she says "I'm farting just as much but they smell terrible." Doc says "Ok, now let's work on those ears"

Moderate loss in the 4k Hz range on a scale of "Mild, Moderate, Severe, Profound"

Stopped by the hearing test place at Sam's Club yesterday, and got reminded of this thread.

My test showed mild low freq (250Hz - 500 Hz) and moderate high freq (6kHz) losses in my left ear, and mild high freq (6kHz) loss right ear. Interestingly, even though my volume level in my left is slightly lower than my right, it turns out my speech comprehension is better in my left. So can hear tones better in my right, but understand words better in my left. That might explain why I can hear the dinner bell from a mile away, but can't understand a word my wife says.

I went to the ENT because my wife says I don't hear her well. The doctor tells me they get a lot of that. The audiology tests came back normal.

Every husband eventually develops a "notch filter" in the frequency range of the wife's voice. After awhile you can't hear her at all.
Then you develop notches for the kids.
Then life is good again.
At least quieter.
;)

I sit here at my computer and my tinnitus is loud while the house is silent.

ENTs have no cure for it.

Go fly and don't spend any more money on it. I get my doctors visits for free and I do not waste their time or mine.

I am not kidding.

The tinnitus is it's own issue. I have come to terms with that.

I am still getting the distortion when I yell or hear a really loud noise.
Dr. said he has heard of this before and gave me some theories but didn't have anything solid

Sorry about addressing the wrong issue.
Meh, it all sucks.
Best lesson is that I go out of my way to protect my kids hearing.
I have lots of rules about ear buds, music, etc.

You have no choice but to learn to live with it. Based on my experience it gets worse over time. Tried hearing aids but they only made the distortion louder and were hell in a nosy environment. Trying to sort someone's voice from background noise is a real b*tch.
