Driver's License, Destination Ideas?

Go the license, went home, went to bed, 3am the next morning, started the drive to new england from texas.

I never figured out what the big deal was about a drivers license. It takes no skill or proficiency whatsoever to get the thing yet it was treated as hero he-man stuff in high school and I only saw it as pathetically boring. (I got my pilot license first, driver license sometime later) I remember hearing kids, back when the nationwide speed limit was 55, go "ooohh we went 70mph this weekend" and get treated like they were gods. I was thinking, ho hum, I come off the ground when they are in ticket country, climb out at 80+ and then I accelerate when I get to a reasonable altitude.

GPS didn't exist when I got my license. The Navy had something called "Transit", but that was primitive and civilians didn't have access (and the equipment would have been a bit bulky. Oh, yeah, that was in 1968. :D
Same time frame, we had OMEGA on our ship for a special mission capability. Our Navigator kept reporting the system as inop so finally I pulled the manual and was able to figure out the Navigator just didn't know how to operate it...

On the last ship I recall being on when I worked for the Navy (1979) I was looking for the secure voice remote on the bridge and an officer came up and introduced himself as the "naviguesser". Same idea? :D

Head out to Skyline Drive on top of the Shenandoahs some day too. About 90 minutes west of DC. Carved along the mountain top with awesome views.

Never heard of it...It's now #1 on my list, thanks!
