Drinking while flying...

You will rarely or never see a German drinking anything while driving.

Yet this thread was started by, you guessed it, a German lol... I live in Canada but am originally from Germany ;-) But you're right about your statement. I learned how to drive while living in the U.S. as a college student, so I never got the German driving mentality.

Honestly, having learned in Germany, it drives me absolutely up the wall to drive in the US. ANYWHERE in the US.

it’s not only the Autobahn where people move along well, but in town as well. The traffic lights from red turn yellow and then green always in the same timing. That is a ready, set, go signal and everyone goes at once. Here, you have to wait for someone to figure out which pedal makes it go, then gingerly step on the pedal. In the last few years you have to wait for them to finish their text message before that process.

I came back to the US in 1971 and It took about 30 years to get acclimated to putt-putting along on the American streets and highways. Then started working a lot in Western Europe, mostly in Germany in the early 2,000’s. I’m still not used to driving in the US again.

Also, because of the way Germany trains their drivers they have the safest highway system in the world in terms of fatalities per miles traveled.

Many idiot drivers now sit at the light and text while waiting for someone with a horn to let them know the light has changed. Seems it should be legal to give them a little nudge to get 'em started rolling ... :dunno:

:) NASCAR rules - bumping is legal, blocking isn't.

I'd actually to see something like that addressed as a feature of new cars. Rather than "brake assist" we have "acceleration assist". Sitting at a green light? We'll accelerate for you. Or...are you on the highway with traffic passing you on both sides? We'll speed you up a bit.

We've spent 50+ years trying to make automobile transportation safer. It's time to make it faster.
