Done Deal -- New Airport

Good luck. We've got a pair of 12K strips here donated to the community. I hope they can keep enough airplanes landing to qualify for FAA money.

Nice! Glad it's been saved and turned over for GA.

Here's some good news from the housing glut. No developers are conniving to steal the land to put up McMansions.

So you are against legal acquisition of land to build housing or is it just the McMansion part that bothers you? Maybe we shouldn't be allowed to have McMansions as they are wasteful? Maybe we shouldn't have small planes because they are wasteful?

I'm against turning a former Navy Air station into a (since certainly heavily foreclosed) McMansionland that has the control tower as a feature of the shopping center.

It worked very well at Plattsburgh NY when the AF left, a friend got a very nice house at a very good deal, and the government no longer has the responsibility of maintaining it, at our expense.

I see no problem doing the same thing at Brunswick

I understand where you're coming from to a certain point. It always seems like a waste when a military airport is decommissioned and repurposed, but the maintenance on a 3 mile long pair of runways is probably pretty steep, especially when most GA aircraft need less than half that.

And, the word "McMansion" is typically a socialist / class warfare term. Is that your intention here? What is your definition of a "McMansion"?

Private housing, regardless of class, is not in an expansion future of Brunswick Landing. Bowdoin College expansion and other advanced education facilities are slated and scheduled, in addition to known and yet to be determined corporate establishments.

Residences? A Lewiston businessman is in line to purchase all of what has been known as "Navy Housing," the 2000+ units which are in various locations around Brunswick, both near base and surrounding. The interesting part is that his purchase will not include the land under the units, the land still belonging to the Navy. That's been a sticky part of said negotiations.

The Control Tower, new not many years ago, is already spoken for by the FAA, though "spoken" hasn't been defined in terms of future use.

I just read the AOPA article on the new Kestral to be built there. That will be good for the local economy. I'll be up that way in May. Quick weekend trip.

Unless it turns into another tax-funded white elephant like Eclipse.
