Example:
You: "Request transition to the west."
ATC: "Say route of flight."
You (despite being the only one in the plane): "We are going to follow the freeway towards the shoreline."

Or do you say "I am"?

None of the above:

"Gonna follow the freeway towards the shoreline"

Or

"1234Q is gonna follow the freeway towards the shoreline"

Honestly, why would it matter?

I’ve said ‘we’ when solo and I’ve also said ‘I’. I really don’t think it matters any whatsoever.

As the few above have said, just use your tail number to identify yourself.

YMMV.

The 3rd person option is probably the best fit.

It doesn't matter. You're right. @asicer is just looking for confirmation that @asicer is weird. :)

I say they. That way it’s extra stoopid and needlessly arrogant, fake, and useless.

Depends on what you’re flying. You might have to say “the airplane will follow the river”. Then pull the chute if you’re not sure what’s going on.

I just say "Gonna follow the Bonanza on short final ..." or whatever.

Why isn't "us'ns" one of the options for those of us in the south? For example, if I'm VFR and flying northward along US441, the call might be:

"Us'ns is gonna follow fo-foty one nawth a while."

Controller: Ya'll squawk VFR. Bless your heart.

Jesus is my copilot..... We will do whatever.

We. With all these voices in my head, I can never get a moment to myself.

Being British, I say "One will be taking off on runway 17", or similar.

What if you say “I” when you are are crew of two? I’m sitting in the other seat, “Hello, I’m right here. What about me?” :)

I went back and listened to a GoPro recording of my flight yesterday and I said "I".

I believe the expression “we” originated from smaller aircraft pilots listening to the airliners. Thus, it became common nomenclature.

Just a guess.

When tower gives you that dreaded phone number to copy, saying we helps spread the blame.

I voted for all of them since none of them are the right answer.

I kid you not... I just heard it on CTaf this AM....

Him: Podunk traffic, Cezna blah, blah is cleared for takeoff runway 24.

Someone else: Cezna taking off, are you talking to tower or are you the tower?

Him: I’m cleared for takeoff runway 24. Are you the only one around?

Soomeone else: Cezna, there is no tower here, who cleared you for take off?

Him: OK, I’ll contact tower. What’s their frequency?

Someone else: you can depart, I’m just telling you there is no tower here.

Him: ok, cleared for take off in 24. Thanks

I was rolling....

That's hilarious ^. Now I really want to pretend to have a conversation with the tower the next time I'm at an un-towered field.

Could be real fun if you have a right-seater who's willing to play along at an un-towered field. Make your call to the (non-existent) tower, let him respond that you're cleared, you do the readback,.....

HA! I think you just gave me an idea!

That would be fun. My CFII is just crazy enough to go along with that. We'll have to try a different field, however. KOLM has a tower. :p
