I took advice of some here, risking my credit rating (slightly) and applied for a Discover card. I had to call them a couple times after I got the card. They are GREAT! You do have the usual press 1, press 2... where no option applies to what you need but then you get "Welcome to the Delaware/Virginia/Ohio customer service center..." followed in a very short time an actual American human who is in no hurry to get rid of you. The first sweet lady told me about when she bought her house. I got a guy who had my records at his fingertips and got me straightened out. That's the way to do it, corporate America.
I have a couple of Citi cards where I've never had some trouble but it wasn't impressive either. The similar call I made to them got me transfered as overflow to the espanol desk, but the lady was perfectly understandable.
Anyway, if you're looking for a card to get once you dump the AOPA card, get a Discover card. It looks like the rewards amount to .25 - .5% but it's better than nothing.
