DFW pilots: Class B changes March 6th

March 6th we have an airspace change in DFW's class B. Unfortunately it doesn't look good for those operating out of KADS (my base). Because of Dallas Love traffic - Southwest they have lowered the B shelf to 2500'. Doesn't sound like a big deal. Well the airspace is already very congested, if you are leaving or arriving into KADS VFR then you have to come in from the North or East. South and West are both blocked by Love and DFW. KADS is at 640', arrivals usually come in at 2500 and departures go out at 2000. That leaves 4-500 vertical feet between aircraft in close proximity going in opposite directions. Now with the B starting at 2500 we will be forced to fly odd altitudes with 300' separation. Given there are a lot of students mixing with jet traffic 300' doesn't seem like enough.

I will see how it goes, but I am thinking of moving. Flying around KADS on a clear Saturday morning is already scary enough.

But it's all worth it. Once these changes are in place, the fudgies can get to Disney World five or ten minutes faster and the airlines can reduce their fares by one or two dollars per seat.
 
Aaaahaahhahaaaaaa!!!! Whew -- 'reduce fares'.... Man, you kill me. I haven't laughed so hard in years. Oh boy, reduce fares I gotta remember that one. :D:D

I don't know how it would even help 1 min. Based on a presentation I attended a couple of years ago the issue was Southwest repeatedly busting our airspace on approach into Love. If they quit ducking under there is plenty of room or the approaches wouldn't have been approved in the first place. Can't have that with the FAA in the tower, so, let's just take the airspace. Problem solved.

I guess that's just the way it is.

Maybe Southwest will land at the wrong airport.....I know, I'm bad....
 
One idea would be move up to DTO.... Cheaper fuel, good tower crew, easy to arrive at from nearly all directions, easy to depart from to nearly all directions.
 
The FAA utterly disregarded a huge volume of legitimate comments; they are creating a real safety problem to cure a non-issue.

It's the FAA - you expected perhaps genuine concern or real public service?
 
All of the Class B airports have been doing airspace reviews in the last few years. Much of it is an airspace grab to expand the Class B exclusion airspace to the benefit of airlines.

Southwest is the worst airline operating today. They whine, they scream, they shake their hands at anything that doesn't benefit them.

And they can't even run a smooth operation. I don't care how funny their cabin announcements are, I'm not flying in those cattle cars.

They're the busiest domestic airline, and the most (maybe only) profitable one. They might be doing something right. :dunno:

Agreed if you're near the South side. The issue is traffic as in any large city. If I wanted to go fly anywhere near 5 pm on a weekday it would take me over 2 hours to get there. I'm sure it's that way for a lot of owners with regard to Executive, that's why KADS does so much more business.
