Did anyone have an old GPS the died due to the dreaded April 6 syndrome?
I have an old Lowrance Airmap that I'm going to dig out of a drawer and check.

We have a new Avidyne that was affected but did not “die”. We have not done the update but it was fine this morning when I flew - just the warning about expired databases. I am less that thrilled that we had this unit installed in January and I need to pay to have the software updated for a bug they knew about for sometime.

Hello.... is anyone out there.???

My GPS died, and there are no people in town. It is totally deserted here. I can't see another person, just me and my wife...... can anyone hear me.??

I'll have to give my old Garmin 45 a shot when I get back home on Good Friday. It's there, and I'm in Singapore, so I can't try it just now.

I was astonished they even released the unit with this issue. It's been known about for more than 20 years. Garmin managed to sort out their GTN units, released earlier than Avidyne's, without this last minute scramble (I understand it was taken care of in a normal update last year); so why did the Avidyne engineers miss it?

There is no charge from Avidyne for the download, and the update took, maybe, 8 minutes to load. I’d be amazed if any shop charged to do it. Mine certainly did not.
