They also spent time and money to simulate the flying characteristics of the aircraft. My guess is that there will be no major surprises when they fly the thing for the first time.

That's far from certain without more details on their tools, methods, and assumptions. Given that it's a conventional layout there's a reasonable chance models could be accurate in the heart of the envelope, but at high AOA and/or sideslip there's less of a chance.
