I live in MA, am buying a plane from down south, and it will be hangared in CT. I need to register the plane in CT, and it looks like I need to pay sales tax. Has anyone been through this recently? I looked through tax rules online and called the office about sales tax, and they were nice but not helpful. They were not familiar with the process and looked around but only had suggestions, even when I sent them regulation numbers. Would love some advice on how others did it or how I should actually do it if you can point me to the correct procedures.

Thank you.

The CT registration sticker you get from the tax clerk in the town where it will be registered (the town where the airport is located). To get that, you need proof that the sales tax was paid.

Unless you're filing a CT income tax return and pay the tax that way, you pay the tax to the Department of Revenue Services with DRS form OP-186, then give a copy of that form to the tax clerk with the registration application. That's only needed for the initial registration.
