CRM gone bad

Gheeh what a great flight crew. Anyone know what movie that is from?
You mean that's not how it's supposed to be done?

From the title of the link I'm guessing it's from "The High and the Mighty" although I've never actually seen the movie. I think I read the book a long time ago.

Ah, The High and the Mighty. What a great movie. On the subject of CRM? What is it to you? Other than in airplanes can you think of places where CRM might be important? Can a lone pilot flying a single engine in the local VFR pattern practice CRM? Does the practice of CRM always produce a positive outcome?

Helicopters ;-) Ok, smartaleckness aside, sure CRM can be utilized outside of aviation. The meat and potatoes of the matter is dealing with different personalities to accomplish a common goal effectively and, key word: safely. Does it always have a positive outcome? I don't believe there are absoloutes in anything, but lack of CRM in aviation has certainly led to some pretty tragic accidents such as the L-1011 over the everglades that lawn darted in because the crew was focused on a gear light.

A car. One navigates and the other drives. "It was this way! No, I think it was that way!" We do it all the time. OK maybe not what you were looking for. :dunno:

Sure. It's that alter-ego, the little voice in your head who takes the place of your flying buddy saying, "Should we really be doing that??"
Does the practice of CRM always produce a positive outcome?
Perhaps not. Somtimes two together can be braver and stupider than one indivdually. "Hey, lets try this!"

Only if you let her take of her gag and blindfold. Real men don't
need no stinking navigator.

Yeah, that fairly recent Pinnacle airlines CRJ fiasco comes to mind.....

Real men often need a navigator, they just won't admit it. :D
