Crash in San Diego

What was the old pharts name that used to run the place? His brother ran another operation at Chino. I loaned his kid the 120 the day he set the "solo on earliest birthday" record one year.

Can't remember his name right now, but I know who you're talking about...wasn't he a DPE?

wasn't he a DPE?

To the best of my knowledge, Bert Wight was the only DPE at Montgomery in those days.

Wasn't the old geezer's nickname Nug or something like that? I misremember his brother's name, but brother was the first president of EAA CHapter 1.

The experts on the Florida crash thread will expect an immediate criminal prosecution of the pilot for manslaughter charges since the passenger died.

Huh? All those folks were saying is that it's wrong to choose an emergency landing spot that maximizes the safety of those in the plane by unduly sacrificing the safety of people on the ground.

The pilot in this case chose the safest possible landing spot for the people in the plane AND for the people on the ground. And no one on the ground was hurt by the crash.

So why are you claiming that the folks from the other thread would have any problem with this pilot's choice? You seem to be trying to pick a fight with imaginary opponents.

Oh believe me, they will. Some of those folks would sue the fire department for water damage after the fire department saved their burning house

Oh believe me, they will.

Nope, that's not how non-trolling conversations take place. You don't get to hold others responsible for opinions that they never expressed, but which you assure us they WILL express.

OK have a great day

The ATC recording is up on LiveATC. Heartbreaking. Having been based at MYF, I recognize the voices of the controllers and the news helo. I can only imagine how they felt watching that unfold.

It'll be interesting to see what the findings are. My club's newsletter seems to think it was definitely a hard bounce or multiple bounces before the go-around since they put out a reminder about going around after any kind of bounce on a landing attempt.

It's definitely hard to listen to that recording but not much information to be found.

Again, prayers to the families.

Yeah the news reports keep saying that they were practicing touch and go's, but she clearly asked for a full stop when she called in from Mt. Soledad.
