Coyote strike

Not aviation related....

One year, during the 1000yd F-class national championship high power rifle matches at the Whittington Center near Raton, NM, I noticed something sweep across the bottom of the image in my scope while setting up a shot. My scorer started laughing and then I hear the RSO call for a cease fire across the line. When I looked up a buck pronghorn was chasing his harem of 4 does around the range about 900yds out. This carried on for about 10 minutes then out comes the pickup truck to chase them off. The buck would just do an end around and come back to the center. Finally he escorted the does to safety. The following year, at nats, same thing happened prior to commencing firing one morning except it involved a young mule deer buck. Bullets and props don't seem to scare some wildlife until your are specifically hunting them....then, they easily stay well out of range.

Haha! I had a similar story. A buddy and I were at a public rifle range sighting in his new .308. Once we got done we walked down range to retrieve our paper targets and low and behold a 12 point buck steps out from behind the backstop and looks right at us. We always wondered what would have happened if he had gotten hit and if any game warden would ever believe we had accidentally shot a buck out of season. He must have been sitting behind the stop the whole time.
