... still fighting the remnants of a cold this weekend and tonight, and don't really care about foo-foo coffee (heh re: the coffee thread), so...

Had to go tear ragged holes in paper.

7 yards, 20 rounds each target. Top three targets were single-handed (and I don't shoot worth a crap left-handed so guess which one of the three was with that hand...), center was two-handed.

Continuous fire but not rapid nor slow.

Ammo was some somewhat questionable reloads I gave each round the hairy eye to that dad left and had bought somewhere. It'll be interesting to see if the group's tighten up a bit when I'm not shooting off this garbage. Tonight was the last of it.

Found a few that looked crimped wrong and even a few seated too short -- tossed quite a few of them into the recycle bucket at the range going through them all. Quality wasn't very good. Nice to be rid of it.

Anyone else having fun at another hobby while self-grounded? ;)

What's your weapon of choice? Judging by the holes punched I'm guessing 9mm?

ROFL. I use those silhouette targets because they were cheap on Amazon in a bulk pack and the splatter burst stuff makes seeing what you're doing really easy with these damned progressive lenses. Especially if you're properly focused on the front sight and not transitioning the focus downrange to the target in between each shot.

This particular session was the Sig P226. The two pistols I shoot the best are that one and a trusty old S&W 6906. I must like heavy pistols. Heh.

I didn't post the target (it wasn't worth bragging about, that's for sure), but I also rented the Sig 227 Nitron they have in their rental case just to shove some 230 grain .45 ACP fat boolets downrange -- and I shot it "okay" but caught myself nose-dip flinching when I reached the end of a magazine and the slide didn't lock back. (It's a range pistol, the mags are a bit beat up.) Watched the nose of the pistol drop when I pulled the trigger.

Heh. Well look at that! Dummy. Would need time dry-firing one to make sure that wasn't happening. Hadn't shot one yet. Nice pistol and I'm a fan of DA/SA but even in my big paws that's one big slab of gun. Wasn't completely comfy with the grip. Maybe rent the 220 next time and see how that feels.

Almost rented the Glock. Those who shoot will chuckle... Counter guy hands me the Glock 21 and says "How does that feel?" I laughed and said, "Like a Glock." He starts laughing and says, "Give me that back. I can tell you're not a Glock fan." LOL. We chatted for a bit and he's in the same boat I am with Glocks. I can shoot one "okay enough" but don't find that I shoot them particularly well. They just don't hit me right in the palm area. Whether it's their grip angle or something else, I don't know.

Was the first time I held a Gen 4 Glock and I'll definitely say the little finger grooves in the front of the grip don't hit my fingers in the right place for as high of a hold as I want. I want the web of my thumb jammed up under a beaver tail as hard as I can get it. If take a Gen 2 or 3 over that. I have long fingers and a fat palm. Making me grip in those grooves would annoy the crap out of me after a couple hundred rounds.

Much to Greg here's consternation I also don't shoot my 1911s as well as the two nines. :) I think with work I'd be better with them.

And if you want a pistol I really suck at shooting, just hand me my wife's M&P 9 Compact. I have to work my ass off with that pistol to make good groupings and the trigger reminds me of a spring loaded Red Ryder BB rifle. Haha. She likes the thing and can outshoot me with it any day of the week, but she's really even better with her Sig P2022.

The Sig world "moved on" from that pistol to the striker fired 320 stuff and kinda left the 2022 for dead, but that thing for the price shoots great. I mean really great. Only complaint I have comparing her pistol to the giant battle 226 is the size of the decocker and slide release is much smaller and I have big paws. They work great for her and I have to think about it just a tiny bit to make sure I hit them, if I'm working on a speed drill of any sort.

Maybe with another 20 years of practice I can be half as good as Jerry Miculeck. Ha. No. Probably not. Well as an old CFI friend always says... "at least I can still out-fly his ass." Haha.

Nice! I just got myself a Beretta 92fs compact, I'm eager to get out to the range and see how badly I do :)

I also must like heavy guns!

Good stuff, my go-to is my P229R Enhanced Elite and Glock 26.

I shoot the Barettas pretty well too, but haven't owned one for some reason.

The real curiosity for me are the CZs and the HKs. Never shot either one and haven't been to the range with my CZ-crazed friend yet. Also want to get my paws on a XDm sometime. Have a different friend who's nuts about those.

So I guess in due time I'll get to play with all but the HKs. Don't know anyone who's HK crazy... Yet. Ha. Maybe I'll have to pay more attention at the range and try to notice if anyone's shooting one.

Maybe your paws are bigger than mine even? Those are both a bit "chubby" for me, but nothing wrong with either one!

Once the radio tower project is done (stalled) and I can have some space back in the garage, it may finally be time to build the reloading bench out in the garage this winter. I dunno yet.

I really want to put that in a nice heated corner of a nice steel barn someday really, but too many hobbies and have to decide if I'm ever building the barn first.

That project would get way out of hand real fast. "Oh... If we make it big enough I can put in an automotive lift? Hmmm... And a reloading room, and make it long enough to pull the 5th wheel inside, and..." Yeah, sounds expensive just thinking about it.

Only guy I know who both had an airplane and built a big workshop barn is now too old to mess with either one, sold the airplane a long time ago, and his kid reloads out at the barn instead of him. Maybe a lesson to be learned from watching that progression? Heh heh.

Eh not that big, I love single stack more, the G26 is just the perfect size subcompact with the pinky extension for a nice concealed pistol. The P229R E2 is identical to the P226 just with a shorter barrel, beaver tail, and very abrasive grip for a better firmer grip. I'm actually excited about the P225 that was just released as it's a single stack version of the P229, if either of my pistols were a tad bit thinner they'd be perfect.

Well, this being Veterans Day, I took the S&W 1917 to the range. I don't know how much action it's seen in 3 conflicts, but it sure looks like it's been through the war(s). Rough outside, smooth inside. :-D
