Adam's little girl, Rachel, has her Bat Mitzvah today, and I happen to know one PoA-er who is proud as can be.

I have had the pleasure of visiting with Rachel on the phone a time or three, and she is every bit as delightful as you'd expect a daughter of Adam to be. We fully expect to meet her one day, maybe Gaston's? (hint hint)

To Rachel, and all of the Zucker clan: Mazel tov!

I have met her, and Spike's right, she's delightful. Congratulations, Rachel!

Congratulations! So is she 12, or 13? I know the girls can be either, depending on the synagogue...

Mazel tov to Rachel, and Mazel tov to Adam and his lovely wife Tamson for raising such a wonderful daughter!

Cheers,

-Andrew

Adam:

Congrats to Rachel, you and Tamson on the Bat Mitzvah! I'm sure all went well and a good time had my all!!

and I'll add my hearty congratulations and Mazel Tov as well!

Rachel is a very, very nice young lady. I met her at the Fly BQ and she put up with all my dopey jokes about you know who. Congrats!!!

Wow thanks for the kind words everyone. Yes I truly have to say that I think Saturday was one of the proudest days in my life. Her speech was not only about her Torah Portion but also about her service project working at Angel Flight East.

A much older friend told me about 20 years ago that I would never really understand truly unselfish love until I had a child. I suspect that it is all relative but for me it was accurate. I'll just take a few more moments to brag but man I have such a great kid, honest, poised, compassionate, hardworking and intelligent and beautiful to boot. I'll post some photos soon when I get them. In the mean time I have attached a prayer that I wrote and my wife and I read to her during her service, perhaps but for the section on Jewish roots and Israel I think it could apply to anyone. My wife and I are truly blessed!

Very nice words Adam.

Why is God censored throughout. I've noticed it a lot in different places lately. Is it not a censorship, but a Jewish spelling of God?

I mean no offense, just curious where that comes from.

Not censored per say Nick. In the Jewish faith there is no real prohibition against writing the name of god but the Torah does make a commandment to not deface or erase the name the name of G-d. So when talking about THE god, it is often done to meet this requirement. It is not a universal way of doing it but is very popular. I went to Hebrew school in an area that had many orthodox Jews in it so the rules were pretty strict and habits are hard to break, but I see newsletter from one of the local Synagogues here does not hold to this, they are reform orientated and little less rigid in their views.

Yeah Nick Scott's pretty much got it. We don't write the full name lets what its written on be destroyed ie paper thrown out, Websites going down etc. Pretty much a " religious/cultural habit" for me at this point.
