Well, the FAA finally called with someone to do my 709 so we scheduled for next Friday, I just needed to find a complex plane. Should be no worries right? There's always a bunch of Arrows and Cutlasses at flight schools, and there's no shortage of flight schools down here....

No such thing anymore.:( I had to go check out in a Seminole to do it. Apparently all the flight schools now have you do your initial CPL as your ME ride and then add on the C-SEL in a 172 or Archer. So $125 later I'm checked out in the Seminole. The rental market in SoFla is not in good shape.:nonod:

I could have gotten you setup with something in Nebraska most likely but our FSDO isn't exactly where I would personally want to take the ride.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you doing a 709?

It would cost more to get to Nebraska than using the Seminole.;)

I thought you were going to give up flying and get a boat instead.

709 ride in a retractable gear plane is pretty much standard in such a situation.

Yeah, no worries, but they would have been fine with a SEL complex instead of a $230hr twin. It's just a twin engine Arrow.

No doubt. They're only looking at how you handle retractable gear, not ME. And make sure you have a printed checklist to which you refer at each phase in the flight! They are very big on that on a 709 ride.

They have an arrow available at cirrus aviation in SRQ.

Wrong side of the state, looking around FXE. It's taken care of, and .6 to check out in a Seminole and then 1.x for the ride, it makes it least expensive to just use the Seminole locally.

1.x for the ride

Over an hour to ride around the pattern saying GUMPS then moving the little wheel thingy to the down position and saying three green, no red? sheesh, must fly a huge pattern! :D

...and ya git to do all that for a simple parking violation? tain't fair I tells ya!

Yeah, I was being liberal with the 1.0. Since we did the three today along with a couple engine cuts thrown in in .6, it may come in at even less.

Since you're instrument rated, they may want to see one out of an instrument approach, too. Check the 709 letter carefully to see all the Areas/Tasks they intend to examine. Also, having some pre-ride training time in those specific areas looks good to them.

Three take offs and landings, complex operations.

Couple friends of mine ran into the same trouble recently when going for their CFI ticket. They already work at a flight school that has an Apache, but they don't have a multi endorsement. Ended up having to use a friend's Siai Marchetti to get it done, but had some trouble with the insurance company along the way. Not many complex singles for rent around here.

Bellied in my 310 at Appleton.

Damn. So sorry to hear that. Was it mechanical issue or evenhanded ummmm ya know?

I actually thought you sold your 310 a while back.

He did a write up about it (with pics!). Search.
