compass refill help !

If an A&P puts the new compass on with stainless hose clamps and then suddenly it is now installed with channel using the 4 screw holes that the manufacture supplied as by the factory. Which install is more correct and legal?

Neither until the latter is properly swung and new correction card installed.

If you don't know how to do it, I suggest you don't try. The compass refill kits from Aircraft Spruce and other suppliers contain instructions for the process (as well as the necessary fluid and the new seals which are a really good idea if your compass needs refilling), but if you can't figure out how to remove your compass and open it up, you should get someone who does know how to supervise your work.

I simply looked a little closer. Turns out the cover is just a friction fit and pulls right off. Thanks for your advise.
