Hi everyone,

In August, I am flying Delta from Whichta, Ks. to Charlotte, NC. I haven't flown commercially in over 35 years.

Can I take my IPAD and carry it with me?

I plan on carrying an overnight bag and checking 1 suitcase.

Can I pre-register with the airlines so I can board easier. I will return a week later and probably will be flying regularly after the first of the year.

Your suggestions please.

Terry

P.s.> I will leave concealed weapon at home. :D

No idea.

Leave your food and drinks at home, buy something after passing security. Wear shies you can quickly and easily take off and put back on. Be prepared (early) for long lines and bad attitudes. Travel used to be fun. :-(

Food is no problem. I often make a lunch or supper for a commercial flight.

yes u can take your ipad and yes you can PAY extra when you purchase your ticket for priority boarding, if you feel you need to. my usairways credit card typically gets me zone1 or 2 boarding at the worst. welcome to charlotte!

I work at Hartsfield. Plan ahead. Don't check a bag if you don't have to. Ticket kiosks are great. Be at the gate 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Always double check the gate assignment. It can change at a moments notice. Use the restroom before boarding unless you can hold it until crossing 10,000 feet. Don't get an attitude unless you want to get nowhere quickly. Ask questions but be considerate. Be patient.

Be careful about your iPad. I hear reports of those things going missing everyday 5 minutes after passengers deplane and the cleaners "never saw an iPad." They're usually left in the seat back pocket.

Give yourself plenty of time to get through security. I always carry my IPad with me. No big thing. Stay calm ,stay relaxed and everything should be fine.

Consider shipping your bag via FedEx/UPS you want to check to your destination. It my be cheaper. :) Be prepared to possibly pay to carry on baggage as well. It ain't like it use to be!

I am attending The American Legion National Convention. I think I will apply for a Delta Skymiles Credit Card.

Thanks everyone.

Well, nix the credit card. Free the 1st year and then $95/year after that.

What about my Garrison hat with my service pins on the cap? Will it matter or should I take the service pins off ? Maybe put them in a different bag inside the suitcase?

You do not even have to take a tablet like an iPad out of the bag as it goes through the machine, although laptops still must be removed from the bag and sent through separately, and your iPad will have to go through either in your carry-on bag or loose with you coins, belt, hat, etc.

Your hat must go through the machine, but you can leave the badges on. Only problem you'd have would be if the pins on the badges are longer than 3 inches or so, as those could be considered weapons, but I doubt your badges have that.

If you are not checking a bag, please carefully review the TSA guidance here about what can/cannot be in your carry-on bag, especially about toiletries.

Compared to checked bag fees for regular travel, $95 is cheap.

Or, do what we do, cancel the gold card after a year and switch to the platinum for a year. Repeat as needed.
