Hi everyone,

New to the Aviation world! I went and got my Class 1 Medical by an AME and was deferred. I made a mistake and didn't report everything i should (I know, stupid). Now i would like to re-submit a application with all the information that the FAA needs.

I have history with Anxiety. Was taking Seroqual for a about a year in 2021 but hasn't taken it since 01/2022.

I also have a Medical Cannabis card but will stop using it immediately.

When I call the only HIMS AME in utah, the scheduler said I will most likely need to go to a in-house rehab center. Mind you i'm NOT addicted to weed (only use at night to help me sleep).

My question is, how do i re-submit another application with all the information required? should I go back to the original AME and have her update my application? Or should I just go Straight to a HIMS AME and see what i need to do to get approved?

Why were you deferred; if you didn't disclose all of this, what did you disclose?

You're going to wind up with the HIMS AME, so you might as well go to him now for a consultation and start following his advice. Rehab may very well be the quickest way to get right with the FAA because by their standards, you're addicted.

Well, you're going to have to get a HIMS psychiatry evaluation- and none of them want to see you without six months of prove sobriety (random FAA spec. test program, usu. run by a HIMS AME), and then the eval. This could be Abuse, or FAA defined dependency (yes you can be off the stuff for a very long time and still be considered dependent).

And in view of how many young men have BAKED their forebrains, I wouldn't approach this until an after-6 month normal cogscreen.....becuase FAA will be asking that question, as well.

what's 6 months normal cogscreen? does that mean i have to do a cogscreen each months for 6 months to prove that my brain is normal?

So you’ve already lied. You still haven’t disclosed why you were deferred.

I was deferred because of the Seroqual (don't know why that matters to you). i know i lied because i didn't know if i needed to tell them if i was planning on quitting, don't need to emphasize, and now i'm trying to fix it, that's why i posted this question. I want to withdraw my application and start a new one so i can tell them EVERYTHING.

You can’t unwring a bell or withdraw an FAA medical application once it’s gone live in an exam.

Whatever the underlying diagnosis for the Seroquel will likely be tough to overcome, as it’s an antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and major depressive disorder. If you were prescribed it off label, the FAA isn’t going to care as off-label use isn’t approved of.

Add to that the marijuana history and you likely have two hills to climb. Not everybody has a medical history the FAA can certify.

How did it get deferred is you didn't list the drugs you have taken. I am confused?

Did you go back and tell the AME after the fact?

Schedulers aren’t doctors. So you just have to make an appointment to see HIMS and get in line. Will be a lot of testing, time, and money. That is the only road. Will take months if not longer.
But if you get the same feeling I get when I rotate and start my first turn- it would be worth the trouble.

Yes i did go back and tell the AME after.

Thanks for your advice. I know this is going to be a long road for me.

ahhhh ok, hopefully that helps. If you truly did not remember, you did not break any rules. Henceforth the paragraph below.

Good luck!

My question is did you know you wanted to be a pilot at the time you got a medical marijuana card? Serious lack of judgment, wake up! And don’t post questionable stuff on the internet with your name on it…

Doesn’t matter to me personally; it matters if you want the board to help with the answers you’re seeking. I don’t have much to add outside of what’s already been stated in this thread, and wish you good luck in your endeavors. I’m guessing you’ll have a long road ahead.

As you were getting your Class 1, I assume you want to do this as a job? Airline pilot?

Others can chime in with more accurate estimates - $20,000 for all the testing? 3 - 5 years? After which you can start your flight training. If you are successful. You might find after the time and money spent that you still can't get a medical.

Another question will be the airlines themselves. They have their own set of rules, and dig deep. In the 5 + years from now when you would be ready to apply, the hiring demand might or might not be there. Candidates without potential problems would be preferred.

Sobering, but do consider the time, cost, and job potential as you make your decisions.

Best of luck!

Another victim of total disconnect between different sides of medical profession where , on one side certain drugs/treatments are handed out like a candy while on the other side the same approach is basically considered a severe sentence carrying life long implications.
