Cirrus gets federal nod to build personal jet without per-plane inspections

No sure where you're getting your information. It has radar (see nose), synthetic vision and TAWS. It'd be a pretty useless jet not to have radar.

Cirrus' own marketing literature for the SF50 jet lists all of those, and more, as extra cost "Optional Equipment".

The base price has crept upward since Cirrus started taking non-refundable deposits for production positions. It was $1.39 million on the first orders some years ago, and was $1.96 million last October when it received certification.

I doubt very many of them will be built as base price equipped airplanes. And like "Options" on any consumer product, adding these will be the highest margin generators for Cirrus, so a fully optioned/equipped airplane will doubtless command a healthy premium above the listed base price.

There are presently fourteen production positions, from later in 2017 out to 2020, advertised available for purchase on Controllers for anyone who wants to jump the que. ;)

None of this should take away from what Cirrus has achieved. It has accomplished what others, including Eclipse, tried to do and failed - produce a comparatively economical personal jet aircraft. One that does not appear to be a daunting step up to fly for an SR22 (or other high performance piston airplane) owner. Further, Cirrus has built a brand loyalty that rivals what Mooney used to enjoy oh so many years ago.

When I look at some of the things I do in my booted but non-pressurized piston twin, the SF50 would be a more comfortable, more capable, and perhaps safer platform for many of those trips. Unfortunately my family's Minister of Finance (Mrs. GRG55) won't approve the AFE to acquire one to grace our hangar.
