Went down a rabbit hole trying to understand why ForeFlight device setting reports "Ownship not detected" by both Stradux & a Stratus ADS-B unit.

I didn't know about this report from the FAA. It's free & computer generated. Use in conjunction with the users guide link returned when the report is sent to you (usually in less than half an hour). I wanted to make sure my FAA N-number registration, which had been previously issued to another plane, reflected the correct ICAO hex & ICAO octo numbers & that those values matched what the transponder is squiter-ing as my tail number. Apparently this kind of mismatch on reregistration is the source of many of those "registration mismatch" letter the FAA sends out (plus, I just am trying to wrap my head around the nuts & bolts of ADS-B).

Just passing it on.

If your ADS-B Out system is broadcasting, ForeFlight should detect it as ownship. The N number may show as being wrong, but it should show up as having been detected. I have seen a few instances where the signal from the ADS-B Out overloads the Stratus and results in the ownship not being detected. The PAPR report should be requested after an initial flight when the equipment was installed or in the case where the N number has changed.

Tnx. There are iPad side issues to consider, too. Resetting general/reset/location & then general/reset/network, according to ForeFlight.
