It could be a lot more sad. Two guys decide to take their own lives. Both of them did it without taking any other lives.
 
Article said that when he was released, he asked to go back to his house and collect some belongings (at around 1am) - an officer escorted him on the visit to the house. Who else thinks he went back to turn on a pattern of lights so that he could pick out his house at 2:30am? That. is. crazy.

I just hope these idiots' actions aren't the harbingers of GA's death knell. It certainly doesn't look good.

And, yeah, I know, the first one had nothing to do with GA but it's far easier to regulate GA out of existence than it is the airlines.
 
They guy who laid the brick for that house has a great advertisement tool now...

This worried me greatly. These latest two bonehead maneuvers are going to have the congressmen's phones ringing off the hook. "Do SOMETHING about these small airplanes and their CRAZY pilots. Do it for the children..."

I hope we escape this week...

Well the good thing is that this one didn't stay on MSM sites very long if at all. If anything I think this adds more fuel to the 121 airport security fire then to Joe Blow Airport in BFE.
 
I don't think it will impact us. We always think it will though. We had the guy in Austin who flew into an IRS building... you would think hitting a government building would have had a big impact on us, but it didn't.

I think if anything, these accidents or attacks show how ineffective our planes are as weapons. The 150 that got stuck in the office building after 911 showed how little energy we carry. Cory Lidle's Cirrus hit a building and only killed those onboard the plane. Remember a B-25 hit the Empire State Building? I imagine most of our planes would have bounced off! There are tons of examples of how we couldn't hurt people if we tried.

Am I the only one impressed that he managed to drop it in and hit his intended target without putting a scratch on the house across the street? I think that would be a bit of a challenge at 2am in something like a 172. That guy has skills to do it in a Citation.

My wife's university had a guy crash a 150 into it during final exams in the 60s and hit one of the few empty classrooms in the building. The pilot was killed but no students or employees were injured.

He was an ATP, type rated in that type, and flew regularly in that very aircraft. I’d imagine he had the skills.

Completely aware. But I also know seasoned airline guys that who tell me they'll do things like aim for a cloud just for kicks and miss it. It wasn't like dropping it in over the neighbors roof and putting the nose square into the ottoman that sits in front of the barcalounger is something you drill on in the sim during your recurrent.

I'm kidding of course. No one puts an ottoman in front of their bacalounger.

Story I saw said he "clipped" the garage across the street. A bit of damage, but not much and place was still allowed to be inhabited after the city inspectors got a look at it.

That's what I got out of reading the story, he did it at night. I think he was over the neighborhood without any lights on getting oriented before he flipped them all on and drove it home.

If that plane was going at 350 kts, that house would have been vapor. It looks almost as if the plane was pancaked into the driveway; obviously little speed, so little energy.

Do you think he was concerned about exceeding 250? The deceased might get a letter in the mail from FAA for exceeding the 250.

When you saddle up in a company owned jet without authorization and take off intent on flying into your house with it, the rule book ship has already sailed at that point.
 
I am thinking he might have done more damage by aiming for the second story window..... a theory I am not willing to test though...
 
In a way the guy was looking out for others. Instead of just ramming in there at 350 kts and chance a miss or a bigger mess. he just decided to stall on the front lawn with the hope of directing his hatred very narrowly.
