What does the prefix of the certificate number mean? I got a student pilot cert + class III medical with the prefix GX-...

I got the same, but with GG-xxxx. I don't think it means anything, really, but maybe someone here has more insight?

Totally irrelevant.

Mine was down in the D's I think back 25 years ago. THey're just serially numbered like license plates.

Medical and student pilot certificates need a larger number space. Unlike your pilot certificates which are (usually) for life, the medical certificates keep getting reissued with a new number every year or two.

I've heard EE-, FF-, and GG-, but mine is the first I've seen with 2 different letters.
