Cat Mauled by Pit Bull

This thread is all screwed up, it should be about those very cool model airplanes. Dogs and cats are everywhere, all the time, but how often do you get to see such great toys?

-John

Agreed that plane in the pic looks bad ass!!

No other neighbors around us. This is an airpark and this home sits right beside the property.

This is not my property or I would build a fence. That was the first thing I mentioned how about a fence. No one wants to pay for it. They said if I want it I should pay for it. Again unreasonable.

My wife says she will support my aviation dreams but do not ask her to get involved, so its something I do alone.
She does not say anything about the RC's not to much anyway. When I had nothing but Giant Scale meaning anything over 100 inch wingspan she said a little when there was 20 of them. But these smaller airplanes she does not say to much. It makes me happy and that is all she cares about.

20 giant giant scale birds? WOW!

I had the same thing as you happen while I lived in Vermont. A neighbor's pit bull was on the loose and attacked our cat in our yard. I followed the dog home, and found the owner and told him his dog had just attacked our cat in our yard.

He responded by saying that he hated cats himself, and if he had seen our cat he would have shot it himself. I told him if I saw his dog again in our yard it was going to disappear.

I called the police, wrote letters to the chief and the town board, etc. No luck. Cops said if I shot the dog there would be no questions asked.

Never saw the dog again, but I was ready. However, this was semi rural Vermont. Just be aware that if you do take action on your own it could lead to personal violence and potential retaliation. If the dog actually came into your house, you could say it threatened you or your family and you did whatever you did to protect yourself.

Shooting a gun or even a shotgun inside a house is going to create some significant collateral damage.

Free range cats, free range pitbull. Sounds like a self correcting problem.

I'd let your insurance agent know. He may know who insures that idiot. The average cost of a dog bit claim is about $12k and if it is a pit bull it is $24k. If the dog seriously injures a child it is going to ruin an insurance companies year and be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. WE have a child who got a face scare and it was nearly half a million claim in the end. Juries do not like belligerent Pit Bull Owners. Although we love animal lovers in general once you become belligerent ignoring requests and warnings you become the bad guy.

Let his insurance company handle him.

I would also write a letter to the police, zoning, animal control and the local newspaper and TV news. Let them put pressure on the city/county sheriff and the guy.

Thing is after everyone is noticed "in writing" now if something happens peoples heads will roll. Belligerent dog owner, neglectful sheriff, city counsel who did not ensure sheriff did his job, dog catcher for not catching the nuisance dog which was repeatedly not leashed.

The municipal mindset is that if you do not put it in writing you are just a complainer. 911 get hundreds of ridiculous calls. But if you are a "Document-er in writing" you get a lot more respect.

If you really are concerned for yours, your cats or your neighbors health then you should have an attorney send the letters and notices. When animal control or the police get a letter from an attorney about an issue it becomes something that is not going away and cannot be pushed under the carpet.

These guys get hundreds of silly complaints a week from ridiculous people. A letter from your attorney raises your letter to a much higher elevation.

You do not know when and how this is going to end so start building your journal and case now. Daily documented journal will go along way with a jury when and if a little girl gets a scared face.

PS $20 gets you all the arrest records on a person. If this guy is on parole you can call his PO and get it resolved quickly.

No kidding. I once met a longtime Vermont resident who owned a B&B on a decent-sized chunk of wooded land...he'd complained once about poaching on his property, and found a deer head on his doorstep shortly thereafter. :rolleyes2:

I will take this advice and start writing letters.

Thanks Tony these letters will go out tomorrow and I will keep a journal.

Or a can of pepper spray or bear repellant. One blast of that stuff and that dog will never come near you again!

+1

Spray him once and I bet he doesnt come back.

Also if you dont have much experience with firearms, best not to shoot them in a house

Being the owner of two "pit bulls"....

If the dog actually enters your house, don't hesitate to kill it. Have a baseball bat handy. Then take it to head of the dog owner.

My dogs are gentle but the boy gets rowdy and I just saw that he will nip PEOPLE to play like he does his sister. He has never done anything like that with me. In fact he's only mine because he jumped up and smothered me with kisses when we first met as I was picking up his sister. I went back and brought him home a year later.

I was "the terror of the neighborhood" for a few days when they started to jump my back yard fence and take off. So 1) after I gave up on trusting them I blocked teh doggie door and watched whenever I let them out, 2) we just got the invisible fence installed. The boy got it right from the start. The girl was terrified by the shocks and didn't get it but that meant that she's afraid to go too far from me outside.

Even though I'm sure that my dogs wouldn't hurt a person, dog or a cat, I ordered a second shock collar with remote trigger for him to teach him to never jump on people.

Soooo....with your Mr. Ha Ha dog owner neighbor NOT taking any action, YOU take action or you will end up with a dead cat.

You can get some loud alarms but a maniac dog will very likely ignore that, too.

Baseball bat.

Now I am having problems with the family. They are now harassing me.

This dog enters my home, attaches my cat and I complain, I am a A##Hole....Some people, I bet if this was my dog doing this to them they would be upset too.

I might have to move.

Get 2 really nasty Rottweilers. Then the ball will be in your court.

You could befriend the thing and train it not to approach your cat. Pit bulls are sweet and very intelligent dogs. That said, if your neighbors are that bad it might be time to get some new ones.

My friends dog attacked a 35LB raccoon the other night... Trouble was the raccoon was winning... The dog was getting tired in the fight and was beginning to take a beaten... Just then his old Husky (15 years old) who was trying to sleep, had enough of all the noise... walked over and dispatch the raccoon with one bite... Albeit a LOOOONG bite!!

:yikes:

Buy a new feline... a tiger, or a lion comes to mind. Will put that neighbor right into place real fast!

Seriously, if they are harrassing you, video the harrassment and call the cops. It will no longer be he said she said.

Hmmmmm... This is NOT gonna turn out good...:nonod::redface:

Now if the human owner walked in uninvited, and started felineous assault, that would be trespassing (to start with).

Is there a canine equivalent within criminal law?

I tend to agree with you. The police can do nothing but clean up the mess these people can cause me.
Its time to move. I keep my airplane out here, he messes with that and I will...I won't say what I will do.....

The wife told me by the time the owner got here they " the dog, cat and wife" where right outside the sliding glass door you see in the pic.

Then this man had the gall to tell me my cat attacked his dog on his property. Told me my wife was full of sh#t.
I wanted to beat him, it took all I had to hold my temper. I wanted so bad to hit him,but I was on his property and I would have went to jail over his crap. I was not letting that happen to me.

Shoot the dog if it comes back and dump it. I love dogs more than most people but this animal seems to be a menace. Preferably do it with a .22 and as silly as it sounds, inside your house. Your home will act as a silencer and it shouldn't make enough noise to alert the neighbors.

Dump it somewhere remote and don't say a word. Don't move because of this *******, especially if you're happy where you are. If he TOUCHES your airplane it's a felony.

Shoot, shovel, shutup. Words to live by.

I am disabled and this is the last thing I need. If I was to end up in a fight with this jerk or anyone in his family it could end very badly. I am not sure I could even fight if I had to.
He threw my disability in my face. I really wanted to pound him. My blood was boiling. But because of my health I must run from this situation, like a *****, kills me but I really am no longer much of a man.
Man that was hard to write.....

Do we really have to judge our value based on how hard we punch?

Ones manliness is not judged by the battles one fights, but the ones you don't. You have to pick and choose your fights, and if this is one you want to fight then so be it.

I'd get a few NRA sticks and put them up in windows around your house.

Do we really have to judge our value based on how hard we punch?

Yes. At the end of the day, that is about it. Some old men get to ruminate in peace about how hard they used to punch.

(I'm envisioning the dog carrying the dead cat, complete with smart collar, through the door.)

I'm trying to envision a cat wearing a collar. Especially a smart collar.

I don't own any of this property and the owners do not want to put a fence up. As for the cat door I have thought and thought how does one put a cat door on a sliding glass door. If you have a way I would love to hear it.

The problem now the family are being jerks. Here my family gets attacked in our home and we are the bad guys.

If you're a good tenant you might get your landlord to go to bat for you. I would have happily interceded for my tenants.

At the risk of being very politically incorrect.... I will paraphrase one of the best TV show lines ever....

"As god is my witness.... I thought pit bulls could fly...":D:D:D

Best TV show episode ever.. Gosh that brought back a great memory!

thanks.
