Can a Private pilot fly a company plane with passengers?

@lancie00 just indicated an instrument rating allows further. Is that the case? What do you need, rating wise to conduct commercial flights (not scheduled) in a company plane and still stay part 91? I am certainly familiar with many companies that own planes and hire professional pilots and they definitely travel further than 50 miles. I would also say, that all the pro pilots I know have an instrument rating, as well, so maybe it isn't an issue.

He's right. IR allows for pretty much unlimited flights. I posted the same thing he did, only later, because I'm an idiot and didn't see what he posted. In trying to be helpful I only served to write a bunch of completely unnecessary words and do nothing more than clutter up a thread and not really contribute to it at all. (Please don't confuse me with Denver Pilot.)

Obtain commercial and instrument ratings. Maintain first or second class medical. Then you can fly your company plane under part 91 and be compensated. Just make sure your company isn't doing anything shady like transporting customers in exchange for some form of compensation.

So I think I'm OK here, but I fly all around the midwest instead of driving for work, when I can.
I pay out of my pocket, and then submit the mileage as if I had driven.
Currently, mileage is reimbursed by my company at $0.535/mi.
This covers roughly half of my expenses.
I do this if I fly alone, and occasionally with a co-worker.

It's fine with the FAA if you're alone. Based on the Mangiamele letter you cannot accept company reimbursement if you take a co-worker though.

You would be able to accept a share of the expenses (so long as you're paying at least your pro-rata share) from the co-worker who could then seek reimbursement from the company. Which is a roundabout way of being reimbursed by the company.
