Sounds backwards I know but I'm in a place with no real good medical facilities and no gyms and I've been trying to run for exercise. Except I'm not a runner and I managed to pull a calf muscle somehow. I can't run and it hurts to walk, its been this way for several days.

Anything I can do about this? I've tried stretching, yes I drink plenty of water. Meds? Exercises?

F'running. Bodyweight good old push ups and stuff. Get some gymnastic rings and some webbing you can rig them over a door for pull ups. Running will mess you up. I only run from cops and volcanoes.

Massage parlor.

Oddly enough, they don't appear to have massage parlors here, at least within reasonable traveling distance from where I'm living. Next week I'll be back at "home base" where there is one around every corner. But I'm not even sure those places do legit massages. Doesn't hurt to ask I guess.

You're right, F running. I'm a biker, not a runner. I have been doing pushups, and a pillow makes a great cushion for doing sit-ups on the hardwood floor.

Time is what it will take, and keep stretching - slowly. I'm a cyclist too (well, road bikes only), and when it's too cold to ride I hike, hill climb, and fast walk. Running is too high impact as far as I'm concerned.

But by all accounts the safest exercise is swimming. I haven't done it in years though, lol.

  1. Bananas and stretching
  2. Get these: https://www.trxtraining.com/
I use these straps often, you can get a hell of a core workout doing the exercises and they're easily packable. They make a door mount that can be slid over the door in your hotel room. Instant gym.

I've had some real body builder types try to do some of these exercises and they gas within a few reps.

Swimming isn't an option here, but yeah I have zero issues hiking, climbing, and fast walking. Well except for right now.

They have the full TRX A frame setup and straps back at my gym. Some of the exercises are pretty tough but they are predominantly isometric (I'm a big fan of full range of motion.) Still not a bad idea though.

I just got over a pulled calf, it took 3 weeks. Every time I tried to do even a short run I would be limping the rest of the day. It is one of those injuries that drives you crazy because it just stops any routine you had. Anyway, I would say you just have to give it time.

It's getting better, not running better but I can walk with no issues. Well, other than the fact that it's 90 degrees and 100% humidity by mid morning.
