Lately,I've been commuting to a jobsite near Sacramento, Ca. About 4 times now in 6 weeks. I kept seeing a sign for a museum off I-80 while heading to Auburn, where I'm working. Last week, I got a chance to stop by,and found the California Aerospace Museum, located at McClellan AFB.

The outdoor exhibits were much more extensive than the indoor, and the freedom to wander was exceptional for a museum. the thread about the Flying Boxcar, and Dave Siciliano's CH-3 stories, made me want to get a few pics and post them. They ain't much, but then I didn't have too much time.

Try to get to the museums at Travis AFB in Fairfield or Castle at KMER. Niether are too far from Sacto. Both are worth the trip.

Plus, there is an Railroad Museum that I grew up on while dad was stationed at Travis. It's located on (I think) Hiway 12 half way between Rio Vista and Fairfield/Suisun City

I'll try that. I always end my second day there around 1PM and don't fly back to ATL 'till 10:55 PM.
I've got a few more trips to go yet. I've got a bunch of cameras on a RR bridge over I-80 in Auburn, including a thermal camera from FLIR systems, Pretty cool to see. I have to go download data every couple of weeks.

If you are into trains. don't miss the CA State Railroad Museum - right in downtown Sacramento: http://www.csrmf.org/

By dumb luck I stumbled into it when they were having a festival some years back - they fired up some of the old timers, demonstrated the round table, had visiting trains on display, plus a working steam calliope! Great fun.
