I sold my Cessna 152 a couple of days ago and turned around and purchased a Beechcraft Sierra B24R today. It wasn't my first preference in airplanes (Cardinal), but I got such a fantastic deal on it, that I couldn't pass it up.

I'm really looking forward to getting into the Beechcraft to continue my IR, and I think it's going to be the perfect platform for me over the next few years. I don't have any complex time, so just getting into a retract should be a fun experience for me in the morning.

One quick question though, is that since the Sierra has a 200 hp engine, I don't believe it qualifies as high performance... correct?

Correct. HP is *more than* 200 hp. (and for anyone who reads this and does not know Pipers, the Arrow 201 is a 200hp airplane. The 1 designates the tapered wing).

Congratulations on the new bird! The Beech Musketeer/Sierra has one of the most comfortable cabins in GA.

They sure do have a comfortable nice wide cabin. I've got about 10 hours in them. Congrats!

*waits for EdFred to come in and bash the Sierra as he always does*

CONGRATS!!

Nice stable IFR plane to fly, trainning will be fun. Check out Beech Aero Club for a load of info on the Sierra. http://www.beechaeroclub.org/.

I fly an 80 Sundowner (B23), love it.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to getting some time in a complex. Also, I did join the BAC and it looks like a fantastic source for Sierra specific info. I'll also try to take some pics when I go up with my CFI later today.

Congrats. They are built like tanks. The Stormovik of the GA fleet!

Enjoy!!!

Sweet! Got pics? I love those planes. I don't think you can find a roomier plane with retractable gear for less money

Congrats! A few years back when I was shopping, my short list contained the Sierra, Sundowner, and Cardinal. All had wide cockpits, two doors, the ability to see the runway from base, and the performance I needed for my mission. I ended up with a Cardinal, but truth be known, every time I see a Sierra, I'm a bit envious of the build quality and overall fit and finish.

Well, I just went up for about an hour and a half with my CFI and we just did some really basic VFR maneuvering and a couple of landings. I have to say I am really happy with my experience so far; the plane is much more stable than my 152 was, and I'm sure my wife will like that about it too.

I love seeing the extra speed since I have been used to cruising around at 95 knots until now. I'm not sure about the flap system just yet, but I imagine after a few more hours I'll be much more comfortable with that along with the retracts. I didn't wipe it down or anything, but here's a picture since everyone was asking:

Congratulations on your new airplane! I can understand your being partial to Cardinals... but that Sierra looks like a beaut too. Wishing you many years of happy ownership (meaning, a lot less trouble than I've had).

Waiting for some interior/panel photos...

Oh and one thing that I thought was very different was just the visibility and the stance of the plane in flight. It almost felt like the nose was pointed down just a bit while the visibility out of the windows seemed much better. We have a lot of birds in our area right now, so extra visibility really helped to avoid some of our avian companions while we were up there.
