I'm familiar with that area. The land starts out flat, then they scrape it to make it flatter, to accommodate flood irrigation.

Pilot, and plane, except for a seized up Conti, are fine. Just guessing, but probably an oil starvation problem.

Really happy to hear that no one was injured or worse, but how can a person NOT find an emergency landing area in Kansas.??

That's my neighbor's sector (KC Center controller). I'll have to find out if he was on duty at that time.

We've had a very hot and dry month of June, so that field he landed in was probably baked hard.
