Biannual IFR

So I got a new transponder because ADS-B, and after getting it back from the avionics shop was glad to see that they did the 91.413 inspection because it was due anyway. After I few test flights I was satisfied everything was working well so I filed IFR a few times and even logged a little bit of actual. A couple months go by and the plane goes in for annual. Coming out of annual the A&P noted that it was overdue for its biannual IFR. I figured they probably weren't careful about reading the logbooks so I just nodded my head, paid up and flew home. While updating my records, I noticed that while the avionics shop did the 91.413, they didn't do and/or didn't log a 91.411

Oops!

they wont do .411 unless you specifically asked for it. did you file a ASRS?

If they put in a new transponder, they would have to do a 413. But unless you asked them to do a 411, there's no reason they necessarily would. 413 is required for VFR, 411 is not. So they probably have a lot of people who get one and not the other.

Now, I would think most shops would notice it was due, call you and ask if you wanted them to do it too, but in the end, they did exactly what you asked them to do.
