I am just starting training. First flight tomorrow.

Curious about a great guide that explains all the directory directory information.

I found these local airports on Airnav.

I understand most the information below but would like to know how to understand the Lights line.....

ACTVT MIRL RY 15/33 & PAPI RYS 15 & 33 - CTAF

I know there is runway controlled lighting but not sure what all the abbreviations mean. Is there a guide that explains this line.

Airport Operations

Airport use: Open to the public
Sectional chart: OMAHA
Control tower: no
ARTCC: MINNEAPOLIS CENTER
FSS: COLUMBUS FLIGHT SERVICE STATION
NOTAMs facility: AFK (NOTAM-D service available)
Attendance: MON-SAT 0800-2000
Wind indicator: lighted
Segmented circle: yes
Lights: ACTVT MIRL RY 15/33 & PAPI RYS 15 & 33 - CTAF.
Beacon: white-green (lighted land airport)
Operates sunset to sunrise.
Airport Communications

CTAF/UNICOM: 122.7
WX AWOS-3: 128.325 (402-873-7375)
OMAHA APPROACH: 120.1
OMAHA DEPARTURE: 120.1

ACTVT MIRL RY 15/33 & PAPI RYS 15 & 33 - CTAF

Activate MIRL (Medium Intensity Runway Lights) for Runway 15/33 and PAPI (precision approach path indicator) lights for runways 15/33 with the CTAF (common traffic advisory frequency).

Basically click the mic 3/5/7 times and you get low/medium/high on the lights :D

For the airport I work at (Shawnee KSNL):

MIRL RY 17/35 PRESET LOW INTST; TO INCR INTST & ACTVT MALSR RY 17 - CTAF.

Medium Intensity Runway Lights for runways 17 and 35 are preset at low intensity - to increase intensity and activate the MALSR (Medium Intensity Approach Lighting System With Runway Alignment Indicator Lights) for Runway 17, use the CTAF (122.7 here). 3/5/7 clicks for increasing intensity, low/medium/high in order.

It's more of an experience thing, most of the time I just use common sense and think of what'd fit in the line to figure out what they're saying. INTST = intensity and all

Also, welcome to POA if you haven't already been welcomed!

Get an airport/facility directory (green book), or read the front matter here:

Good point. I was going to point him to the legend in the A/FD but stuff like INTST isn't in there -INTS is. Found there's a lot of variation when it comes to the abbreviations, although for one just starting I'd say that its a good place to start. Especially if MALSR and PAPI are words OP isn't familiar with :D I didn't think of that. Those have constant definitions ofc

Thank you! The legend is what I needed.

Air associates in Overland Park, KS.

The AFD has a good overview that references the details of these things.
